N/A with NOS !!??

Okay here's the deal. I don't want to turbo my N/A motor, or take the engine appart to port it until it blows :( . so... has anyone installed NOS on their N/A?? How much power gain are we looking at here?

rotaryracer1 01-22-02 04:20 PM

i have an 86 n/a with a zex system on it i am 55 shot right now and it does pretty good, i am going to run a 75 shot but i have to retard my timing to do it. nos is cool but expensive, i say try it. i once raced a stock imprezza wrx and stayed door to door with him all the way through 3rd gear, then had to stop. its the only alternative for speed for n/a owners i think.

Racer 13B 01-22-02 04:39 PM

I had a Direct port NOS system on my NA FC.
I ran a 100 shot.

But i sold to buy a t2 motor

I ran larger fuel jet's

fc3s.org 01-22-02 07:07 PM

I have installed both a dry and wet system on FC's. Check out my site for more info and write-up's on both installs. They are under How-To's.

NevadaLoneWolf 01-22-02 09:08 PM

NA w/NOS......no longer an NA

Breakz 01-26-02 02:39 PM

What else??

What else do I have to do other than installing the NOS system?? Will a stock motor be able to handle 50 to 70 more horsepower without screwing anything up?

fc3s.org 01-26-02 02:48 PM

Yes provided that the rest of the car is in good running condition. It is always recommended by me to do a compression check with Mazda prior to doing any modification like this.

Yelow RX-7 01-26-02 04:51 PM

Aces, another fucking NOS question!!!

Breakz 04-05-02 03:14 PM

What's wrong with asking questions...

I'm about to install a direct port fogger NOS system, in about a week (when I go get the parts that came in).
Do a search for NOS, I have recently written quite a few threads on them in both TII's and NA's.
Can't find em, ask here again, I'll give you most, if not all, of the info you'll need, to run a SAFE set up.

NO FUCKING CLUE....
some people just don't like common questions.
If you don't like them, stay out.
Its like posting "shutup" in a NA-T2 thread. New guy was just asking a question.

For $500 this sounds like a pretty good mod! On an N/A, what else would be the minimum to run this? A k/n intake upgrade? What exhaust mods would be necessary? Any fuel mods needed (assume a wet NOS)?

scathcart 04-05-02 04:23 PM

Fuel pump has to be able to provide enough fuel to mix with the Nitrous. If the system runs out of pressure, you inject extra nitrous, and less fuel from the injectors, and run lean (*pop*).
Run an a/f meter, and a FP gauge to be the safest, along with an upgraded pump.
I run plenty of fuel... from a 1200 hp inline pump.

I will running: 550cc secondaries, Apex'i S-AFC, and a TII fuel pump in order for my 75-100 shot of direct port. Just make sure all is well internally before you do this!!

scathcart 04-05-02 04:57 PM

Rico, bro, are you planning on running dry?
Only fuel pump output and jetting affects a wet kit, and from the way you list (primary size and S-AFC), I assume dry.
A wet kit just adds an nitrous (air) and fuel together. The actual injection of fuel through the injectors and metered air is unaffected.
I've been readingyour past posts. Seems like you're gonna have a screamer of an NA when you're done.

I plan on 230hp at the flywheel w/o n20. Then add a 75-100 shot of n20....

scathcart 04-05-02 05:08 PM

for that high high a shot, I recommend a wet kit, like the TII kit. Anything over 50 hp should be wet.
for 80 hp or higher, try the NOS direct port fogger system.
I am going with a similar setup, it'll be running an extra 120-150 hp in a week.
230 hp NA! Big goal, but definitely doable. Street ported?
Sean
Your bro, for sure (and drunk at 3 in the afternoon)

rico05 04-05-02 05:25 PM

Hell yeah ported, and wet of coruse!!

Alcoholic...;) IM me sometime:Rotors4Ever

scathcart 04-05-02 05:28 PM

Damn! I don't have AIM (no one in canada uses it). Maybe I should add it just for froum friends, and of course, my bro, fo' sho'.
I got ICQ and MSN *puke*. Where do I get AIM?
Sean
and not alcoholic. It is the last day of classes of engineering (read: drunk most of the time) and there is a concert right now with 10,000 ppl that I'm about to head to (and 5,000 condoms.... *wink*)

grinchy 04-05-02 05:33 PM

scathcart - try a product called 'trillian' it blends all the im's together into one interface. handy!

scathcart 04-05-02 05:36 PM

I run it actually.
Just don't have AIm downloaded yet. Do I need it, or can I just add people through Trillian?
Sean Cathcart
Trillian illiterate... but ask me about the rest of my pc.

grinchy 04-05-02 05:37 PM

how many 'shots' can 1 get from the 10lb tank? From the installation above, it appeared that you get hit every time you floor it! I know it depends on the injector size and all, so ballpark guesses are fine. I guess my real question is, after the fuel pump upgrade and NOS initial install, How often would I have to change the NOS bottle, and about how much would that be, say, a month (in US dollars)? Average use. I live in a town so small even the ricers can find someone to race with.

You can't put a turbo on an n/a motor, but you can put a supercharger on it, which is almost better. You make power all the time instead of waiting for the exhaust fumes to warm up the turbo. As far as NOS goes, run with it! NOS is great!

When it comes to turbo's and supercharging, it appears you have no idea as to what you are talking about.
