N/A Exhaust Recomendations!

This is for anyone N/A owner.... I, right now, am running a RB Header collecter, then a presilencer, with the stock Y Pipe and stock muffler, and its sounds like one of those rice burner hondas, the noise is discusting for a seven, now i want to replace the y pipe and the two muffler, but i want something nice and deep if possible, i dont care if it a single or dual exhaust. I want something thats sounds nice, with singnificant HP gains, cause the motor itself is ported. Any susggestions will be greatly appreciated...

Liquid Anarchy 03-30-04 01:14 PM

Simplicity; CS Catback

What I'm doing; Mandrel 2.5" to the passanger-exit.

gerbraldy 03-30-04 01:17 PM

I'm running two fireball mufflers with a universal y pipe and non-mandrel bent pipe and my shit sounds nice and deep. My na is stock except for intake and the exhaust.

7thWonder 03-30-04 01:36 PM

Hey liquid anarchy, whats it sound like? its not to loud is it? can i get a silencer if its to loud?

ScrapFC 03-30-04 01:47 PM

The CS single is LOUD!!! I was running one on my GXL with the mods in my sig, and it was over 120db! Putting the tip silencer in dropped that to 104db, but really strangled the motor. If you're looking for a deep exhaust note at a (somewhat) reasonable volume, go with the RB dual.

I agree, if you want something "nice and deep" and doesn't sound "like one of those rice burner hondas" then I would stay away from singles.

I really like my Racing Beat cannisters, even when hooked to true dual exhaust, they sound really nice.

Not to mention then look great!

Racing Beat are fantastic pieces, and they sound nice - but they are expensive.

If you are budget minded - take a look at Dynomax. I have had a RB DP and Presilencer running into a Dynomax Y pipe and canisters for about 6 years now. They may not be the prettiest, but they are inexpensive, and sound terrific. The tone is low, and not too loud.

I agree with Nick86, on my N/A, I went to a repudale Permance parts Store, and bought a custom Aluminzed/steel Piping, Dual Stainless Steel mufflers and High Flo cat, that looks/sounds Incredible wiht 12 hp gain. all for 500, custom is always going to be cheaper and the differences between the custom and "name brand" are not going to be that noticeable for most everyones application of the car, save track events. IMO go custom, plus yours will be unique!
Hope that helps

My Dynomax wasn't custom - it's an Rx-7 specific kit. Y pipe and both mufflers. I bought it from a performance shop and installed it myself.

sorry Nick, should have Clarified, I agreed with your first Sentance, thats all, yeah I figured yours was pre-bought, sorry bout the confusion.

RACING BEAT CAT BACK. I love my exhaust my setup is stock exhaust manifold to straight 3 inch pipe with no cats and rb cat back. My only other mod is a cone filter and I ran a 15.2 so i'm guessing this exhaust setup if offering a pretty good gain in hp

7thWonder 03-30-04 07:51 PM

So its settled... i think ima go and save up for that RB CatBack System... you guys should be salesmen ... im only playin... thats for all your help...hopefully its going to sound nice with the header and presilencer all the same... with some nice power.... later

Molotovman 03-30-04 07:55 PM

i have two i geuss what are high flow cats, a ghetto y pipe that an exhaust shop made, and magnaflo mufflers. surprisingly it sounds real nice.

bytemee495 03-30-04 08:54 PM

I have a Borla Cat back stainless steel setup that is real nice. It sounds deep and it is not to load. The only weird part is that it is loadest around 3k rpm's and gets quiter after that. The coolest part is when you let off the throttle it sound mean coming up to a light. I payed $415 from mine off the web and it is warrented for life.

On a side note I am going to be adding a Bonez mid section with prsilencer and a high flow cat. do you all think that will make it loader. I do not really want that.

totallimmortal 03-30-04 08:57 PM

my rb used to have a banez cat and sounds good deep and quite,, i wanted more power and sound so i scrapped it for 3 inch pipe

Visago 03-30-04 10:44 PM

same topic . yet slightly off... i want to run a bonez 2.5" superflo system and some sort of cat back (not sure which yet) but cant afford to buy both at the same time...will the superflo setup bolt on to the stock catback at all ? and if yes will it just blow out the old exhaust right away? I know I have to have the cats soon, its starting to sound bad and dont want to buy a stock replacement for just 2 months use.

ScrapFC 03-31-04 02:00 AM

Bytemee495: I know that the Bonez cat doesn't quiet the exhaust note as much as the stock cats, but it's a LOT less restrictive. I'm curious about the tradeoff of noise vs power on the presilencer, as I have an older race (cat replacement w/presilencer) and was thinking of putting it in before my cat.
Visago: The Bonez cat will bolt up just fine with the stock catback. It shouldn't hurt the mufflers unless they're rusted out and about to let go anyway.

borla from nopistons.com when they have them. y-pipe to dual cans, all stainless, and 370 bucks. oh and a 1 million mile warranty. best deal a cheapo like me could find for something thats not rediculously loud :D

MazdaRx7Racer4Life 03-31-04 07:27 AM

You know, when I used to have my NA< I could always tell the diffrence between my cars loud whine and a honda's loud whine, my car had a large streetport, pacesetter headers, 3 inch mandrel bent tubing all the way to the back, no tip, no muffler, no pre silencer, just open completely, it sounded like a monster, and when I started spaying a 100 shot of n2o it took it every time. This this was sweet, but after I added the nitrous it only lasted another month, then it blew. My little brother has the car now, he rebuilt the engine, put the rb full exhaust with pre silener and dual mufflers, it sounds alot more mellow now, but I can still remember its old days of screaing and flaming.

MazdaRx7Racer4Life 03-31-04 07:28 AM

Moral of the story, who cares if it makes noise as long as it makes power!

thrllride 03-31-04 08:28 AM

i bought my 86 gxl and my friend had bought the borla mufflers...he took it to a shop and they did an under the table thing and cut the cats off and installed a straight piping into a y-pipe then into the borla mufflers...very noticeable compared to when it was stock and its not very loud but a nice growl when you downshift coming to a stop..
