N/A driveshaft U-joint replacement ?
Hey guys, I just found out the my U-joint is busted (explains the hell out of a lot) and I was wondering if it's possible to replace the internals for our U joints so that I don't have to buy a new shaft?
|
i believe on the new models i think from 89 + you need to replace the whole shaft .. i could be wrong.. it could be reversed.. but i think thats what i remember reading
|
I'm thinking it's the older ones. I'm gonna try and get one from rx7world. Hopefully Ernst has one. Aftermarket with replaceable U's.
|
on ALL stock driveshafts the U-joints are not made to be replaceable. There is a hack for it somewhere on here though. If you want replaceable u-joints, buy an aftermarket shaft from mazdatrix or have one custom made.

I'd like to know about what years you can replace them, mine are going bad to. I have an 88 n/a

Hey, I just ran across this site, might be interesting.

Oh, you need the site--- right.

I couldn't get the "new u-joints in OEM driveshaft" thing to work very well. . I tried it, it kept losing grease, becoming loose, etc. Just pony up the cash and get a new one from mazdatrix.. This one has replaceable u-joints, for when I need to. I had to borrow a bit from my parents, but the peice of mind from knowing that my driveshaft isn't going to come up through the floor and take out a leg or two was well worth it, as was the instant improvement in drive quality and accelleration (no jerking, hesititating, or slapping noises).

was that the aftermarket mazdatrix driveshaft or the OEM one?
|
Aftermarket.. I think it's actually cheaper anyway... here's the link to mine: http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.asp?partnum=2691-704 Assuming yours is standard, N/A it shoudl be for yours, too. It seems to work rather well, i only have about 600 miles on it, though.
