N/A Break In Period
 

Well, today is the day I start my engine for the first time after rebuilding and mild porting. All I have to do is bolt the upper intake down and connect the wires on my starter. Anyways....I did a search for the N/A break in period, but only found a bunch of turbo threads. Could someone post a break in mantainance schedule for me? How many miles, max rpm, oil changes, and anything else that may be helpful.
One more question... I have a presilenced race pipe hooked up to a dual 2.5" catback with two glass packs.....should I throw the stock cats back on? Someone told me I may wanna throw just the pre cats on for a little back pressure until she is fully broke in. Any suggestions??

Not sure about the break-in period, but I think the general consensus is nothing over 3000 RPM for 500 miles.

Glass packs are a bad idea. The exhaust from a rotary is too hot for them. You'll melt them before you even get done breaking in the engine.

keep it under 4 for at least 500 miles. Be nice and easy on it until around 1,500 miles then change the oil and your done.

Nothing over 4000 or so for 500.

and after 1000 miles change oil and consider engine good to go for whateva's.

Hmmm, I figured some glasspacks were good enough for the rotaries, guess not? Hey mobius, did you check your PM's?

I recommend you use it for at least 2,000 miles, change oil and filter add Pro-Long and you will be done. The break In period is this much ONLY if you changed the bearings and apex seals... if you did not change any bearings but you changed the apex seals then it would be less. I recommend to do the 2,000 mile anyway...

this is the breakin spec hayes rotary gave me for my na reman.

4000 redline for first 500 miles. no wide open throttle. change oil at 500.
6000 redline for the next 1000 miles. as you get closer to 1500 total miles begin to accelerate more aggresively. change oil at 1500 total miles. no more redline caps after 1500 total miles. WOT is ok after 1500 total. change oil at 3000 total miles and every 3000 miles after.

I've got my new motor bring fired soon, we didn't replace the rotor bearing, but did replace the stationary gears. Anyone else have any advice?

What weight oil should be used?

I like no revs over 4000rpm for 1000 miles and gradualy increase to redline by 1500. Full power reached by 2000. OIl changes at 500 and 2000, and every 2000 thereafter. These engines do not get new bearings, gears, or housings.

so in my case you would reccomend just as long because I replaced some of the bearings?

There's also like what a 45 min idle period when you first start the car right?

And how about striaght 30 weight oil for the first 500 miles?

Also, is there any advantage to changing the oil every 500 miles untill 2,000 miles just to keep it clean?

street, racing beat "streetable" intake/exhaust street porting templates. It's got a good amount of oil mods also. But it's still on the streetable side.

"Breaking-in" a fresh engine requires extreme care to ensure a long life for your engine building efforts. Use 20W mineral-based oil for the “break in” period. Remove the spark plugs and crank the engine with the starter until you get an indication of oil pressure, i.e. you are priming the oil system.

Replace the spark plugs, start the engine, and run at a fast idle for 15 to 30 minutes while checking for any fluid leaks. Street engines should be driven at least 500 miles with a 4,000 RPM ceiling. Avoid hard throttling of the engine. After 500 miles, gradually increase the load and RPM for another 500 miles. The engine should now be fully broken in.”
