My Stage 3 street port finally perfected
So basically I've been porting for YEARS. And just today it finally all came together in a perfect port. Well perfect for me. I took some time today to start DGRR prep on my FC , and got the car started. These ports are going to be my shop's signature ports. So these prototype templates have finally paid off. So much R&D and so many housings and side plates have been sacrificed for this one video.
Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyNGw-KBdRE> First official idle with a decent tune. ( yea she's not quite bolted together quite yet at this point. ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4Fs552CV4w |
First run before I bolted everything in place.

*** edit*** your going to have to forgive the vasoline on the plate. after the porting they sat under my bench at the shop for awhile and needed some protection from moisture. |
did your car just peed on you when you reved it??? :P
That is a pretty large port. |

That is a pretty large port. Yea it's pretty decently sized. But listen to that brap brap. It's worth it. |
nooiiice

Thanks guys. I'll be posting up some port template/ porting prices at some point in the future. if there is enough interest.
|
That port has got to be massive. It sounds so nasty. (in a good way)
Keep us updated on the testing! |
sounds great i'll definitely be interested after testing is complete
|
i love that !!
get it on the dyno |
75% of the time spent on a port job is spent porting the intake tunnel. The port face is a part of the job. The intake path is a 3D object.
Buying a porting template is like buying a paint by numbers kit and expecting to produce a marble sculpture. The real benefit of buying a porting template is it helps prevent the user from violating the port face boundaries. Once the user recognizes the boundaries set by the oil control ring and the trailing side seal, the template is worthless. That is a nice large port and I'm excited to see the test results. |
so how do you know when to stop porting the intake runners?
and what would happen if you went to far? i would assume the irons useless? when you port big do you have to keep that venturi affect going or do you just ignore it ? |

Assuming everything goes well with it, you may have me wanting it done when we build my motor after taxes. I certainly wouldn't mind showcasing work like that. :) Hmmm... ZeroG stage 3 ported 13B-RE with TII sleeves, 60-1 and open dumped twin 'gates... (Especially through the new exhaust that you liked so much) Me likey! |

My assumption is that with a forced induction setup it's not QUITE as crucial. I may be way off, though.

Now, there are some definite limitations to how big you can port. Back in my early days i ported a set of irons so aggressively that I went a bit too close to the oil control rings. The engine ran great .... So long as you didn't mind the smoking. Another time i ported too low and the overlap was ridiculous. the VE of the engine was all over the place. Fortunately this was many many years ago and mistakes i made on my own car. |
gotcha!! thanks for the info
im refering more as to the runner.. not the face on the port.. im to chicken shit to go beyond the template. pvknight said 75% percent of the time is in the actual runners so it brought to mind my question.. how much porting should i be doing in the runners of the intake? be it the manifolds or the irons thanks guys |
Took her out for a drive last night and this morning. Spool is ludacrisly fast with the stock turbo. I definitely need to put on a To4Z as was originally planned.
|
Looking forward to pricing and options...I wish this was closer to Canada but if it's worth it I'll ship my sh*t over! Haha. Nice work man!

How is it close to bridge port territory? Kind of hard to get to bridge port territory without opening earlier like well, when you have a bridge port. It closes fairly late but so do all large ports??
Going by those pics Id say you have lots of work to do on the bowls and could clean up the transition quite a bit. Keep at it, your on the right track but I just dont see perfection here. I certianly would not pay for it.

for all intents the port timing is damn close to bridge port territory I'd say roughly 30-4o% overall vs stock increase in size. Ive' tried to use larger street ports, but this as far as i can tell has all the benefits of a half bridge Ie. idle and revving capacity, but none of the half bridge negatives. That being said i still need to text it for the next few months to be 100% sure. Also in that video it was holding a 750- 800 idle. I have a pic somewhere let me track it down.

I knew it had to be a good size to sound that aggressive. Sounds good.
