My S5 TII......Its alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As some of you may know, I have been having a problem with the fuel as of late in my 90 TII. I did a ghetto rig a.k.a. direct injection to the fuel pump, but it still didn't work. I found out the fuel injectors weren't firing. I was clueless. I bought a black 89 TII recently and I am parting it out the aftermarket parts. As I was taking stuff off, I looked at the MAF and wondered if the MAF is not working and reads 0 airflow, then that would probably send no signal to send in fuel to create a air/fuel ratio. so I thought it wouldn't hurt to try it out. I threw the MAF in and VROOOOOOOOOOOOM! It started right up but (cough cough)I put ATF in the lower spark plug holes earlier. It has weird idle problems right now, but it does idle. It just goes up and down from 1,500rpm to 1,000rpm and goes back and forth. I let it idle too, and no overheating, it stays at 1/2 on the temp gauge or a little below it. I revved it a couple of times and the HKS SSQV BOV sounds really good and pretty loud. The downpipe did have a lot of heat coming up from it. Is that normal? I heard of turbo rx-7s that get hot. I also had a heater hose that didn't have a clamp on it. It started to leak coolant, but I found the problem and put the clamp on and it stopped the leaking coolant. Also I did a compression test and got 115psi front and110 psi rear. I am happy that I got my car running. Now I'm officially in the turbo rotary club. and here's my first problem as well. The black car on the right is my 89 TII and its not running. The white one is the one got running today with a jspec that came from an auto tranny. The engine bay with the TMIC is the white one too.

Thanks guys. Any idea on how to cure my bouncy idle.

Thats bad, not even suspose to go halfway IIRC

darksider 03-01-06 02:33 PM

its not? my s5 n/a temp is kinda at the half point... hope this isnt bad.

Eternal_Gamer 03-01-06 02:40 PM

All the Rx-7s I have seen go halfway.

S5's are supposed to be halfway, S4's are supposed to be a quarter....

slow87turbo 03-01-06 02:55 PM

my s4 TII isnt even half way!!!! 180 stat.......its awsome........i would recomend it to anyone with a rx7...it runs better also, as far as your idle prob check for vac leaks, try screwng with the idle mixture screw or the iac screw. ones on top of the manifold pass side its a flat head brass colored screw on the iac. the other is over by the air box its a blackplastic housing with 2 screws holding it to a bracket right next to the manifold presure/vac sensor. or where you plug your FCD into. it may be pluges with wax use a small pic or screw driver to clean it out. and that is allso a flat head screw. hope this helps.....also what ecu did you use? the j spec one? you said something about that being auto....that could cause problems with a stick car. keep us updated.

i am using a stock N370 ECU. The engine came from a car with an auto, and was just stating it so most likely it wasnt pushed that hard.

Try the TPS! Check the resistance.

SonicRaT 03-03-06 01:30 AM

Hah, I say we kick you for not checking the obvious stuff sooner!

Terrh 03-03-06 01:51 AM

check the TPS.

Next pressure test the intake to test for vacuum leaks.

mr0pistons 03-03-06 11:33 AM

way to go. hopefully mine will be up and running this weekend after behind a PITA for the past month.

Congratulations on the effective surgery! I can't help you out with that troubleshooting...but just some nice rooting might help. Good luck, man!
