my rx7 crapped out on me... please help...

Hey everyone. Well this morning right now as we speak as a matter of fact, my car just happened to die. I was crusing on the 91 doing 60 mph I swear. And then I seen like some smoke come out of transmission hole and I immediately pulled over. By the time I reached the side of the road it turned off by itself, I tried to diagnose the problem. There are no leaks whatsoever I checked over it and everything seemed cleaned. The car itself cranks but no start. Any suggestions? Please help me. Its my only car and my dd.the rebuild only has 444 miles on it so idk what could have went wrong. The shop that I had it at will take a look at it but I have to tow it there. If anyone has a trailer or something to tow it with please help me. I invested money in this car because I knew I was going to drive it daily. I'm flat out broke. If someone can help me I would really appreciate it. Well of course I would duh. Help me ...I'm still stranded on the road. In san bernardino.

Smoke implies fire; recommend you find and correct the damage which caused the smoke before you try starting it again.

Crank but no start suggests ignition. Perhaps you had a short in an electrical harness, damage from which has taken out another circuit required for start?

I would check first that there is spark during cranking, on the leading plugs (trailing plugs dont affect start or idle much at all). If there is spark, then verify that there is fuel pressure.

There is an excellent troubleshooting process for this symptom in the online FSM, see the FAQ section for the link.

Do you thing flutter dump^boost surge could have murdered my car?

Do you know if I would have to rebuild it or replace like oil control
Rings?

Anything is possible (but I thought this was an 88 GXL... no turbo no boost?). Anyway, you will not know if it is something minor or major until you go through the troubleshooting flowchart in the manual.

It would be a shame to rebuild the engine if the only fault is a shorted wiring harness...

I think he had a fresh TII rebuild swaped in.

Well, that certainly raises the number of potential issues. Could be anything, except perhaps a siezed engine--apparently it still cranks.

What's up everybody,

Yes sorry I did not mention it was a T2 swap I thought I did?I did some diagnosing of my own and I found out I am getting spark and I am getting fuel. I even bought new leading spark plugs and it still won't start. I checked the wiring and everything looked normal and in working order.

It sounds odd when I crank it. Kind of like an off beat sounding crank. I don't want to think the worst... but I f I have to I will...

Let me know what you think or any suggestions that you have

Or if you live in the socal area and can help me.

Any support is always appreciated.

I think you've replied to the wrong thread, but now I want an update on the O.P.'s car. I hope he's not spent ten years stuck on the side of the 91.
