My Rex don't run...

I have a 1988 RX-7 that doesnt run. My brother bought an engine for $600 (with 80k miles) off ebay (seller had vry good rep.) The engine ran for 1/4 mile then a fire broke out. The pulsation damper had squirted gas all over the engine and started burning. My brother was crushed, after all the work he had put into it (one of his first cars he ever worked on) and so it sat in the garage for two years when my brother went off to basic infantry training.

I inherited the car a few weeks ago knowing virtually nothing about cars. Here I was presented with a challenge which I took. I checked out books on the wankel rotary and also the Chilton's Mazda repair manual. I downloaded the 1989 Mazda owners manual off iluvmyrx7.com and began to study.

I love challenges so I learned quickly. I still don't know an aweful lot of stuff and this is mostly trial and error. The car was in pretty bad shape. I took off the air intake system, but left the intake manifold. I cleaned off the block, and removed the charred remains from OMP lines and various burned hoses etc. I reassembled the burned parts from the old engine.

I'm presented with two problems. I have to wire the car. The ecu is already hooked up and the harness is through the firewall. The rest is up to me.

The second is that longer bolt oil nozzles were put into the shorter bolt and i stripped the threads on the housing. I am ordering some plugs from mazdatrix and plan to premix now. That problem was solved. I guess it's not really a problem anymore... :D

Now all I am left with are a bunch of parts left around my garage, a lot of them are not labled, and the bolts aren't witht he parts. I have all of them, just scattered all over. I just wish I had someone who knew what they were doing to guide me through it. I need that car to get me to work so I can pay for the parts that are needed to be replaced on the car. Vicious circle :p:

Where would you all start?

Find a wire harness on ebay and buy that.

Are you gonna bother with emmisons?

The wire harness is already partly installed, the ECU is hooked up and the harness is through the firewall. I have dual glass pack mufflrer but the glass is all busted out. I'll probably get ticketed for it but ehh, who cares. I also have two catylitic converters.
