MY Project

Hello to everyone, I own a 1986 rx7 body with a 1987 turbo import j-spec motor (did the install with a friend last year)
I thought i might clean it up, change the hoses, and paint the engine, and engine bay
This is my first time tearing the engine apart piece by piece.
I think I know enough but i dont know everything. But thats what forum friends are for, right? this is my project so far...
I do need to know how to get the turbo and lower intake off.
Any help is greatly appreciated, more pics to come.

Those things you are pointing to are the OMP metering lines and the oil injectors. Look up rotaryresurrection (kevin) for the lines. As for how to get them off- not sure. Mine are still working well, so I haven't messed with them yet.

Thanks

they unscrew

RX7 allnight 12-01-07 09:20 PM

the oil injectors un-screw. the hoses are hard to take off without breaking since the age.

as for removing the turbo and lower intake manifold. remove all the heat sheild stuff from the turbo manifold than you can see the bolts that attach it to the block and in the pictures u can see the lower intake bolts as well

as for the wires i noticed when i unwrapped my harness i noticed mazda has odd factory splices, i would remove the tape and see if those are spliced together. if so retape it all nice, your green/black wire is damaged i would repair that also now that its out.

Thanks, i think i might just buy a new harness if i cant figure it out

Umm.. I commend your efforts. The chrome paint looks a little cheezy to me... But to each thier own..

Expect alot of smoke when that thing first heats up. Let it run with the hood up and a gentle fan to dissipate the nasty fumes.

And yeah, that paint is a little blingy. But it could be worse.

It could be pink and blue. (cheap shot at a forum member)

If my wife wanted me to paint my engine parts pink and baby blue, I'd be down at the lawyers office filing paperwork faster than you can paint an AFM pink.

good luck to your project. =)

That's a lot of silver!

Looks like you just sprayed the whole engine? Unfortunately I don't think that will last very long. Any seepage out of any of the gaskets is going to get under the paint and lift it in big sections after a few heat cycles. :( The paint on the exhaust manifold will last minutes, and if you don't clean it off the gasket surfaces you'll have leaks very quickly.

I love the monochromatic silver look.

certifiednut 01-12-08 01:05 AM

I'm rebuilding my engine and plan on painting irons and housings, what is the best way to paint them? Just clean and apply 1200 degree paint or 500?
