My ghetto ass water injection!

I have taken a 'cool blast' water mister thingy and retro fitted it into my injection before the throttlebody. It works excellently, Another 5 horse or so. Only thing I am worried about is water puddling, what danger to my engine is that?

banzaitoyota 11-06-02 11:57 AM

Not to be an ass; but how do you know its "5 horse or so" Your butt dyno is 3% accurate?

GLHS 11-06-02 12:02 PM

ass dyno...LOL

Suds7 11-06-02 12:03 PM

Specific heat of water is 4.184, you can calculate temp drop inside injection with that number and some idea of how much air is flowing per unit of time, and according to calculations it was a 40-50 degree drop, and they say 1 horse for every 10 degrees, right? :)

ever hear of hydro lock?

Ever hear of a rotary? :) They can't hydro lock.

Hey suds...your car is a turbo right? I've never really heard of an N/A using water injection. How did you set it up...pics?

Suds7 11-06-02 01:11 PM

Thanks dale, you da man!

Kiyo, will try to get digi cam to work, right now it is a single nozzle jb welded into the top of the tb and fed from a hose to a pressurized container in the cabin.

Eventually I will rig up a rail to mount 2 nozzles from, I want to decrease pressure to reduce puddling and increase the amount of water injected.

Suds7 11-06-02 01:15 PM

Never heard of a n/a using water injection? What about harley's?

Detriuch 11-06-02 01:18 PM

i use to run it in last last car all the time. i think it helped a bit. wouldnt say 5 hp. depends on how nasty your motor is inside

banzaitoyota 11-06-02 01:37 PM

5 hp is therorhetical. You need to do bsck to back dyno pulls to PROVE anything. Butt dyno's don't mean shit!

Sure they can. If you put an uncompressible substance(fluid) in a shrinking area (combustion chamber) eventually it will reach a point where it will not be able to compress anymore.

KiyoKix 11-06-02 02:59 PM

Damn...I forgot about harley's...and I just visited the freaking plant and watched them build them (York,PA) about 2 weeks ago. I'll be awaiting the pics :)

Exactly. Thereotical hp is great on paper, but never fully applicable.

For some reason, I doubt an intake, home made ram air, plugs and wires, and water injection will make a 2.2L go from 93 hp to 233 hp.
Good equations though, just a little hopeful. He's maybe got 105 hp.

As long as we are trying to get technical here, I wwould like to point out air, like all gases, is a fluid.

now that's just crazy talk.......but you beat me to it

BlackRx7 11-06-02 05:45 PM

yes but water is a liquid and doesn't like to be compressed hydraulic is an example of a liquid not compressing

Perhaps you better explain what this is. For water injection to work the water must enter the intake as a very fine mist, which means using high quality spray nozzles and a high pressure pump. I doubt your "cool blast" is really doing much... ;)

Suds7 11-06-02 06:56 PM

I pump it up to very high pressure, so high it leaks from the valve 2feet downstream. I have VERY VERY fine spray nozzles, I have no tool to measure the hole opening. And I run two of them for a decent amount of flow.

I am considering putting alcohol in the cool mist bottle :)

liquid 11-06-02 08:17 PM

aren't there any professional water injection kits for this engine? And i've never heard of somone just using water injection for more hp, ive only heard of people using it to get the engine to run more boost.

Must say i'm somewhat confused.... care to enlighten me?

Suds7 11-06-02 09:43 PM

Water cools intake charge.
I didn't want to pay $300 + for a kit I could make myself in 2 hours.

NA86RULZ 11-07-02 02:53 PM

Air is not a fluid. Air is a gas. And, water is NON compressible. Air, how ever is compressible, hence how A/C works. All you have to do to cool air is compress it, and expand it to warm it. So in the long run, yes I would be worried about hydro lock. Water is not compressible at all. Therefore, if you put to much in, it will bite you in the ass.

Mmmmn... fluid dynamics...

Air is a fluid....

thank you.

:D

(oh, AC has nothing to do with the compressability of air... ;))
