My first time here. I just got an 88 RX7 Turbo II
Hey whats going on everyone. I just got an rx7. I am loving the car and haveing fun wht it. The car is totally stock with 68,000 miles. I was just wondering if anyone could help me out with making my car faster and give some good ideas. I would also like to find out some good web sites. thanks

start by removing the cats. depending on the emissions where you live you should either go with a downpipe and midpipe, or a downpie and high-flow cat.
|
Does anyone have any suggestions on any good exhaust systems for the 88 Turbo II
|
and a nice set of mufflers :D
|
don't remove the cats, get high flow. First do a fully tune up on it, then worry about mods
|
It all depends on how much you want to spend. The most restrictive thing on the car is the exhaust, then the intake. But be careful because the stock computer really cant handle much more power than stock.
I would get; Racing Beat Complete Exhaust Walbro Fuelpump (rewired) Port your turbo wastegate or buy an s5 turbo wastegate/manifold. Racingbeat Fuel Cut Defender This would be to start and should get you 10 psi of boost and around 205-210 at the rear wheels! After that I would get an Apexi SAFC or similar fuel moding product and then get the car dyno tuned. If boost is under 10psi then you can do small upgrades to the intake for modest power output (Dyno tune after everything.) Al these mods will run you 1300-1500 depending on deals you can get (all new parts) used parts could be 800-1000. |
Do yourself a favor and buy a boost guage before you do any mods. the stock guage sux.

Thanks guys for the info. I was wondering if that mizdaspeed place was a good place to go to.

Welcome to the Forum. I also have an 88 turbo. Just take a little while and cruise through the pages and Im sure you'll find more than enough info (as if the 600 links posted in this thread arent enough already!) and most of all, HAVE FUN!

EGT Gauge, Boost Gauge, Plugs, Wires, Fuel Filter.
Thats a good start before you start modding. I'm going to reccomend a path rarely taken and say get a Haltech E6K along with some big injectors as quickly as possible, that way any power mods you make in the future can be tuned in as they come along. You may think it's unnecessary, but as you will find you will reach the point where you need some kind of fuel management system like the E6k very quickly. Walbro fuel pump is good. New turbo is a good idea too, whether it be s5 or even something like a T04 setup. Controll of boost is KEY in keeping your car running. As long as you can predict boost then you can arrange fuel. If your boosting is irradic there is no way to assign proper fuel at a given time and BOOM goes your wankel. As strange as it sounds, could anyone explain to me why a turbo upgrade (t04 even) would not be a good first mod?? The Racing Beat Exhaust system is just awesome, and may I reccomend a Home Depot Intake. They are MUCH cheaper (excess of $100 cheaper) and are twice as potent. That should keep you busy for a while :-D. |

Like what?? If you have an external wastegate with a 5psi spring you could hold your boost reliably. Even on a T04, the stock fuel system should be able to handle 5psi. This means no creep, spike, no overboost. What do you really NEED to run a T04 at 5pi safely??
|
Why would you run a to4 at only 5 psi???
|
because he's cheap ;)

I realize that, but wouldnt the stock fuel system that is good to 10psi on the small turbo be sufficient for 5psi on the larger one?
|
and yes, I am cheap
