My Exhuast sounds like a weed wacker
Ok before this sounds happend i had rb header to rb presilencer with stock piping and old school rb mufflers (says "RB" on the top of the tip) anyways recently i got new piping 2.25" with the presilencer takin out with a resonator. I have the same mufflers and kept the header.
Heres the deal..when im at WOT or just giving the car some gas it sounds deep until about 2800 rpms and then sounds like a damn weed wacker or some civic with a race pipe  So im thinking maybe its my rb mufflers? Are they straight through? Because i dont think my mufflers are muffling..i think those rb mufflers are just ment to make noise or something. So whats the most quiet good sounding aftermarket mufflers i can get for my car? |
RB mufflers are striaght through.
Did you think you were paying for baffled mufflers or what? This isn't a piston engine car using flowmasters ya know.... Why did you remove the pre-silencer? It likely gained you one or two horse power at the expense of sound quality. |
because i had put a straight pipe on before the resonator...but since the presilencer was toast i couldnt use it again.. plus the presilencer had an exhuast leak on the inlet side and couldn't be fixed by tightening the bolts + i couldn't afford a new presilncer :(

Run a single pipe to a quiet Flowmaster. I personally like the "weedwhacker" sound, it's a sign of a good flowing exhaust and high compression, as long as it's not loud. I ran a V-8 muffler on my Integra, it still had the sound of a Honda, but it was quiet (kind of like a Ferrari).

 |
there was holes in the presilencer when i had it removed
|
like on the side of the housing? damn how the hell did you do that?@!
I've hit lots ofuneven road with my setup(duals=twin silencers) and they are still ok as far as not having holes in the side! |
dont worry about it cause its behind me now...i just need to know whats the most deepest muffler out there that will get rid of my weedwacker sound??

anybody??

i dont think a muffler is gonna change it to a completly different tone. Its the noise all of them make. the best bet is to slap a preslincer on it and if you want it even quieter put a cat on there. i have 2 cats on my tiny exhaust and it has a very quiet tone, but of course my exhaust is prolly costing me 30hp on my t2. Cant wait to get it changed!

well i have a resonator on it

i have a stock exhaust manifold back straight pipe, one single 2.25 pipe and my car sounds like a horde of weedwhackers.
|
i say go with a borla muffler as a presilencer, a few guys have used it and it seems to take care of the weedwhacking sound from what i've heard. i had the same problem with my car...it sounded awful and made me put my manifold back on with a straight bonez pipe so it wouldnt sound so awful.
|
I too, personally like that "weedwacker" sound...mine only has that sound when I'm going past 3000rpm or at WOT. Best bet would be to put back the stock cat, but then that would suck @ss...IMO.

u like the weekwacker sound?  :rlaugh:

i have mine straight piped with 2 1/2 inch pipe, with a 12" glasspack, and the damn thing sounds like a jet running down the road. makes every1 look twice at u too

From my experience, it's the headers that cause the weedwacker sound in an N/A...
I've heard several N/A's at the Kent street races (Seattle) that I looked upon in horror as they drove off, they all had RB headers. Honestly I think it just comes with territory... It's actually grown on me somewhat, but it get's a completely different, higher pitched 'buzzing' sound. Unlike my N/A with gutted cats that was relatively deeper/quiter in comparison. |
I'm running stock manifold>gutted cats>Y pipe>20" 2 1/4" glass packs, sounds absolutly beautiful. I have video I can e-mail if you want to hear it, it really is a great and inexpensive setup.

YEah don't you know that you have lots of fun going around telling everyone your FC is weed whacker powa'd! :bigthumb: |
yea send me that video clip

My RB system on my SE sounds like a weed wacker also, but my last fb with a header, presilencer and a "magnaflow" dual exit muffler sounded incredible. It was deep and racy without the high pitch at all. I miss the sound but have gotten used to what I have now.

It's pretty simple, you open the exhaust, and you get that sound. To combat you either do the following:
Install a GOOD presilencer/resinator/etc Install baffled mufflers Reinstall the cats Lose the header Either way, most of them are going to be a restriction and perform less than what you've got. Though killing an RB presilencer is pretty nuts. |
