Is My Engine Toast???
 

I have an 86 GXL. My problem is this...Lately it had been smoking really bad at start-up in the mornings (white smoke)but after running for a bit it would stop, it also at times would do that "flooding" thing they're known for where I would have to pull the fuse, crank, and then put it back in to start the car. But now I can't even drive the car because it won't stay started without me keeping my foot on the gas pedal, and it is smoking severely from under the hood..somewhere near the back of the engine..can't tell because the exhaust fumes just about kill me, and another thing is that when I am keeping my foot on the gas pedal the RPM's WILL NOT go past 4000 no matter what or how far down/hard I put the gas pedal, it doesn't rev past 4000 RPM's. So is my engine toast/blown?

Sounds like it to me...does it start like a lawnmower? does it have NO power? wont idle/run below 2000 rpm? floods EVERY time it shuts off?

The only way to know for sure is to do a compression test. IF you dont have a gauge, do a hand/ear test. Pull the lower plugs, have a friend crank the engine(after disabling the fuel adn spark fuses under the hood) and check for alternating repeating pulses from each hole. One pulse per hole per rotation. IF there are any skips or differences between the tw you need an engine.
