My DIY FTP's... what do you guys think? *56k beware*

Hey, i've had these on my car for a while, but I'd been to lazy to post pix til now. What do you think?
on the driver side, i have one Luxeon LED which is great for spreading light.
thd passenger side has 3 LED's that focus the light more, but I filed them down to change the angle of emitted light. I did this to see which people like more... most people said the 3 LED's.. So, i'll probably replace the Luxeon with 3 LED's also.

Nice pix, dude!

The single light seems whiter and more matched to the rest of the lighting than the bluer 3 lights. I think I like the single like more also because it has a fuller halo -- at least in the pix -- but I also think it could be more full like the fog lights below. The triplets seem a little wimpy to me. Do you suppose the heat buildup in the lens areas is any kind of issue? Anyway, looks like you are having fun with this. Right on.

rs_1101 11-24-04 01:31 AM

dude i love the triple. it doesnt work with the headlights, but as a runninglight it looks sick during day pics. very clean.

LizardFC 11-24-04 01:42 AM

I like both! Okay, maybe the 3 is a little cooler. Very nice job :)

razorback 11-24-04 01:49 AM

are those the fog lights i sold you?

wow, you're the first person who said they like the single better. But yeah, luxeon focused more on having a light that is spread. I believe the spread angle on them is around 90 - 120 degrees or so as apposed to the triples with about 20-30 degree spread. I thought the luxeon would look more natural because of a single light output. And what do you mean by the heat buildup in the lens area? As in damaging the LED?

I really like the single too... actually I like it ALOT

13bpower 11-24-04 03:29 AM

Very nice. I like the 3 bulb better.... but it doesnt seem to *work* with the headlights. Do you have pictures of how you rigged it up?

rs_1101 11-24-04 03:37 AM

either way using ftp lighting looks better with the popups down. id use the triple+foglights for cruising down a well lit strip.

Dltreezan 11-24-04 06:04 AM

exactly which luxeons did you use?

RotaryBuddha 11-24-04 06:40 AM

the 3 look awesome at night. any writeups on how to file them down at a good angle or the wiring method you used?

MichaelFregoe 11-24-04 08:17 AM

Ghetto

jon88se 11-24-04 08:27 AM

The 3 LED side looks terrible. Single looks nice...

What I was thinking...might look good with a custom fixed headlight system.

hondahater 11-24-04 08:53 AM

yeah i like the single alot better. Looks stock!

TII '87 11-24-04 09:25 AM

Personnaly, i think it would be nicer to keep the 3 leds setup, but not the blue ones!

why dont you use 3 luxeons?

can you also tell us how did you do?

brent clement 11-24-04 10:54 AM

3 looks sweet. I'd ditch the head lights though

i agree
use them with the fog lights, and only the foglights, but not with the headlights
unless your gonna get a headlight conversion kit or something...then change em all around to match...like a xenon blue or something

that would be cool

jg1bad10th 11-24-04 11:07 AM

I like the looks of the 3.they look great at night.
post some pics of the install.

I think 3 luxeons would look really good.. not a big fan of the blue 3.

totallimmortal 11-24-04 11:35 AM

damn some1 said it before me 3 luxeons would look great 2 might even be enough but the blue doesn't really fit, maybe the blue would look better if you had silvania silverstar headlights ( for those of you who haven't seen those headlights they kick ass they are soo much brighter and whiter its unbelievable)

rs_1101 11-24-04 07:09 PM

see i dont like the 6 headlight look. my favourite look at night is the headlights, runninglights and fog lights way down low (in the brake duct actually) gives a very nice appearance.. kind of an evo-ish look.

VietFC 11-27-04 02:15 AM

the three I used are actually just some cheapies I bought on e-bay. They were supposed to be "hyper white", but I guess you can't get any more white without some kind of hue of blue. The reason I did not use more of the luxeon is because they are $15 a pop. The luxeon I used was just a regular emitter. If you look at it from the side, it has a flat top opposed to the more common "domed" top. The way I hooked it up is I put a resistor(value depending on the LED) in series with the LED/string of LED's. Either way, I'm going to have to make a matching set, so if more people are interested, I can try to put up my "ghetto" writeup. Thanks for the complements guys, and the criticism. That's exactly what I was looking for.

VietFC 11-27-04 02:22 AM

In case you're interested, here's the link to the luxeon LED's
http://www.luxeon.com/products/family.cfm?familyId=1

If i would, i'd use the luxeon floods. *drooooool*
