My clock "blinks" intermittantly, why?
 

It just started this last weekend. There is no pattern except it is more frequent when the blower motoer is on, especialy on high. some times it will go off for several seconds. the time doesn't reset, just the light.
what is it and how do I fix it?

does it blink 12:00?? =] Sounds like the CPU needs to be re-soldered. Its a pretty painless procedure if you can solder. You just pull out the CPU (not the ECU) and heat up the cold solder joints. I think there is a how to on teamfc3s.org if i remember.

Take the whole idiot light assy out of the car. Take the thing apart, only three phillip screws I think. Lay it out on a table and get your soldering iron out. You need to reheat or remelt if you will, the soldering joints at the point where the plug hooks up. That was not so clear. Solder the 16 points on the board where the jack blades meet the circuit board. Guaranteed to work. I melt just a little new solder on the tip of my iron prior to heating each joint. I resoldered everything in my entire car. it was a mess but fun to do. Actually found components which were ready to fall off the circuit boards.

When you have the idiot clock out, take a look at the bulbs. I am not sure if the clock has a backlight but it may, and it may be almost burnt. I think you can find most of those bulbs at like Pepboys or Parts America.

I have an idea... Put a piece of electrical tape over the flashing clock, and wear a watch... damn mazda electrical department...

The problem is NOT the CPU!. The problem is simply the clock module. Remove it and resolder all large joints. Specifically, the wiring harness connection and the fluorescent screen connections.
