My Check Engine Light Came On . . . Please Help Anyone!!!!!!!

Last thursday my check engine light started to flicker, on friday everything seemed normal until my engine warmed up and then the light began to flash again but stayed on for longer periods of time. Now once the engine is fully warm the light will tend to stay on. The light only comes on when i'm off the gas pedal or idling, but when I'm accelerating the light comes off. I took my car into Mazda today to get checked and they diagnosed that my throttle sensor needs to be replaced.

Is this a serious problem that needs to be fixed ASAP????
Is the Throttle Sensor & Throttle Position Sensor the same part????
If anyone can shed some light on this issue, I would really appreciate it!!!

Thanks
Chooks

I don't know which series your car is but there are links on how to pull codes for both on that site. I suggest bookmarking it because there is tons of great info on the site.

I guess it's a S5 in which you can "pull" the codes yourself and try and find the cause. I would check the TPS for resistance/operation/setting before getting a replacement as they are quite expensive.

Mine is even more weird. Whenever I turn my Hold button on, and drive at 20mphs, my Engine light comes on. Once I go to 21mph, it goes off, but once I go back to 20....on it comes. After that, I turn it off, the light goes off, but the traction is still on...odd. As for taking it to Mazda, since they are the ones; from what I heard, have a computer or something that's geared towards the "Hold" button. How much did they charge you to get your car diagnosed?

Hey, I live in ontario, canada and here it's just an hour of labour they charge me to hook it up to their computer to find out whats wrong. and for me it was $85 cdn. I'm still learning more about how to do things myself, so the next time I get a warning light come up i'm going to test for the codes myself now that I have the list of what they are and how to do it. you should try that too, but I think $85 is not a bad price to have someone more knowledgable to check it out.
