my car wont start

ok ppls my car still wont start its not flooded because i pulled the fuse out of the box to un flood it. but it still wont start. i just bought a new starter and still nothing. i checked the plugs and the bottom two were oily so i cleaned them up. all four that is but still nothing. if your local in 714 and know about working on rx7s please let me know. thanks 'marcos'

how will it not start. did you replace your starter because the motor won't even crank? have you checked your fuel pressure, spark, and compression?

FrankV702 01-07-07 02:07 PM

Is your engine trying to start? (cranking?). Pull the spark plugs out completely.. crank the engine over for about 10 seconds, replace spark plugs and try to start again.

at first the engine would cranka dn then at times it stoped. so thats when i got the starter. my car has fuel for sure. how do you check for a spark and compression? im still new with rx7s.

if i pull the spark plugs out and try to start wont hat push fuel out and spill inside my engine bay?

yes.. but it will unflood your engine if thats what it is. my old rx-7 got so flooded one time, the fuse trick didnt work. I pulled the spark plugs out.. cranked it over.. and it spit out all the fuel and started right up. since then.. ive dealt with 3 rx-7s that did the same thing and the same trick worked. with the new starter.. is it turning over?? that could be a cause of it being flooded really bad. if the starter was going out and u left the key in the on position. the fuel pump is starting to pump fuel to the injectors. the more times you do it without it starting.. the more fuel is getting pumped thru the system.

take a spark plug wire out and hold it close to the spark plug and crank the motor. these cars generate a large spark so you may feel it if you get too close. One spark plug will fire normally as the engine cranks. The other fires about 4 times the amount of the other.

To test your compression you will need a compression gauge and install it in your sparkplug hole and crank the motor.

You mentioned it would crank then at times it stopped. I hope your battery is good.

ok thanks alot for your help guys. the only thing that i dont get is that i havent drivin my rx7 in about 2 days and i dont understand why it would get flooded. but thanks for your advise. i will be trying these in a few min.

Wht90Rx7Conv 01-07-07 02:22 PM

the car won't flood just because the fuel pump is on. these cars are easy to flood because of the warm up. If you turned off the car without letting it warm up, the next time you start it, the chances of it flooding are very high. everytime these cars are started there is an abundance of fuel dumped into the motor for warmup so don't be quick to turn them off.

Or you can have bad injectors or fuel pressure regulator or bad springs. A rotary is not just going to flood out. Try all the advise on here and if you get it running then find out why it's doing this!

FrankV702 01-07-07 02:49 PM

my problem was a leaking fuel injector..

cr7684 01-07-07 03:15 PM

Thank you Frankv702! He may have a bad injector or motor! (Springs maybe) Try putting oil or ATF down the intake or spark plug port or Vac port on the intake! If this works run it till all the smoke is gone and turn it off and try to start it up. If the same thing happens your motor may be bad. If it floods then it's the fuel. (injectors or regulator.)

YOu know, the BETTER way to deflood a motor is to unplug the fuel pump resistor by the steering column.. That way you still have spark while you are cranking to light off the excess fuel.
