My car is so slow!

1st and 2nd gear seem to be ok but after I get to 3rd gear and stepped on the gas, it takes like 15sec before I can reach 60mph. Does anyone knows what the issues are here? This happened on the 4th and 5th also. What can I do to fix this problem? My compression seem to be okay. I have installed new wires, plugs and oil changed.

check your secondary injectors and 5th and 6th ports

Capn' Wankel 04-22-03 12:50 PM

stay in second gear till you hit 60 =)

Detriuch 04-22-03 12:54 PM

ha that always works with a 7

Bebesito21 04-22-03 12:54 PM

thats true too....lol....i was so quick to diagnose a problem. yeah...try shifting later and see if 3rd 4th and 5th dont respond better.

NewOwnerRX7 04-22-03 12:57 PM

I been doing what you guys suggested but the problem still existed. Isn't there a fix for this beside redlining on 2nd gear?

Bebesito21 04-22-03 01:03 PM

so you shifted later on first and second. Did third respond better? If it did then maybe you were just shifting out of first and second way too low. You shouldnd have to redline 2nd to get good pull on 3rd. Check the secondary injectors and 5th and sixth ports. If those ports dont open, youll take forever to get anywhere in the high RPMs. are there any other problems or is that the only symptom you see.

NewOwnerRX7 04-22-03 01:10 PM

The 1st and 2nd respond okay. The third isn't any better so should I say worst. With this persistance problem I usually shift gear after 4000rpm or high to get boost I need.

I will check the secondary injectors, 5th and 6th port as you suggested. Is there a procedure as to how to go about checking the injectors and the ports? If so, could you post the link.

Appreciated all you inputs

Bebesito21 04-22-03 01:16 PM

oh...you have a TII. Sorry....you dont have any 5th or 6th ports. ill have to step down and let a TII guy talk help. I dont know much about that crazy boost stuff.

NewOwnerRX7 04-22-03 01:35 PM

Oh, I don't have TII. Just a regular old 1988 Rx7 converitable with street port. :)

Yes, the simplest fix is to heave the rotary, and install a 5.0 liter, or larger, V8 and trans. I hear that is a popular thing to do on this board.
:)

Then don't say boost dude you get us confused :p: Do what they said with the 5th/6th ports. Compression seems to be ok? That really shouldn't matter cuz right before my motor died it would accelerate faster than that.

NewOwnerRX7 04-22-03 02:10 PM

I'm really ignorant when it comes to rotorary so could you point in the right direction as to where these ports are. Excuse my ignorants.

darkwaveboi 04-22-03 02:12 PM

get a turbo, thats how to get good upper gear pulls :D

the 5/6 port actuator is on the left (passenger) side of the motor. I believe its on the LIM.

1987RX7guy 04-22-03 02:14 PM

they are above the headers/exhausr manifold.they are in the LIM and are operated by two little actuators

Drifter101 04-22-03 02:17 PM

Your best bet is to go out and buy a haynes manual, i purchased one a couple days ago and found they are full of usefull info. Up here in canada they are about 20 dollars and you should be able to find one at your local auto parts store wherever you are. :) My geuss aswell is that the 5th and 6th actuators are not working

Bebesito21 04-22-03 03:03 PM

i think there is a thread up right now about cleaning the port sleeves. That should give you an idead of where they are. If you do a search for "6 port" you should get a whole bunch of threads telling you what they are for and with pics or links to sites with pics
