My car be a-smokin - What's up with that?

I had my engine opened up and have all new springs and new side seals, so it just isn't going bad like a Hayes rebuild one day after the warranty expires.

I was wondering if the oil metering pump (series 5) could be pumping too much oil into the intake? I had to switch the first one out because I was getting the appropiate error codes relating to the pump.

Any thoughts?

it's possible that the MOP could be putting too much oil out... theres two ways to rule it out.... pick up the haynes manual, and it shows you how to measure the oil flow by squirting it into a graduated cylinder... or you could block it off and premix.

I'd honestly just premix....

Brian,

Usually because of assembly grease your going to get "some" smoke for a first short while. How many miles are on the new engine?

Also, you stated that seals were replaced, which seals, you would be surprised sometimes to find out that many engine builders will neglect to replace the oil control rings simply because they "look" refurbishable. This obvious it not acceptable and will lead to a smoking engine.

Who built your motor, get in contact with them and inform them that your engine is smoking. Explain to them when it smokes, when cold, when warm, certain rpms ect..ect.. See what they have to say about it.

Good luck!

Unfortunately, I can't yell at myself (or I can, but I never listen).

I replaced all the seals and springs and oil control rings a year or two ago. I didn't put on many miles and it was smoking out the tail tipe. I then opened the motor up and replaced the springs for all the seals and replaced the side seals and put back together because I was putting the motor in a car I want to sell. After just a few test spins, I notice it smoking.

I was just wondering (hoping) that maybe it was the OMP. I was wondering if anybody ever had problems with these and changed them and everything was fine?

If I unplug the OMP, any idea how long I can run the engine without any problems?

Or does everybody think the motor is just crap?
