Anyone Redone Their Interior?

My 87 is gonna need all new interior. The carpets are pretty much rags, the cargo area has nothing back there. It has some side wall carpet, but its ripped or broken. Also all the vent covers for the dash are missing. As well as the passenger side kicker panel and the speaker cover for the driver's side. I am pretty much gonna need almost all new interior..

Alot of people will probably say "Junkyard", but it will be hard to find any stuff within good condition. I plan to go ask the local yards around here what they got, but I really want it to look more new?

What is the best way to go about this?

I'm doing this.

My plan:

1) Strip the interior.
2) Buy new Dash plastics (mazdatrix or straight from mazda)
3) Have seats redone in new leather
4) Buy new carpeting (lots of sources)
5) Dye all cabin plastics (dash too) to make them new
6) Shine everything

Of course, money is not an issue for me.

You can do things much cheaper by buying used plastics, carpeting, etc. Cleaning will make them almost new again (seriously).

I'm in the process of doing this. Most of the trim I am buying new. The carpets will be new, and the seats are being reupholstered as well as the door panels.

None of this is at all cheap.

Just wait until you see someone parting out a car in the f/s section and grab the carpet if its in good shape. I sold all of the carpet from my parts car a while back and it went fast.

i wouldnt suggest buying aftermarket carpet unless the people you buy it from are going to put it in. most of it isnt cut right, low quality and a pain in the *** to fit properly

I went to Lowes and bought boat carpet and used that for all of my carpeting in the floorboards and the hatch. The side and door pannels i covered with fabric that i got at wall-mart. the plastics and dash you have 2 options either use the duplicolor spray paint for plastics or find used pieces(i did both).

Well.. I had some guy quote me on $250 in just labor to redo the hatch siding, carpet, and passenger carpet.

I think what I will do is see if I can find some carpet somewhere for the front and hatch. Altho, I am thinking of something to do on the sides since that will be hard to do. I dunno what things I am missing back there besides the jack and spare tire assembly. The interior is just real **** in this car. Only a few mechanical issues though.

Here is mine - Pleather

The kid before me had this done. I think his mother did it. Anyow, I did do the glovebox because I put the custom gauges in it. It is really not that hard with a can of 3M and some nice clamps, heatgun, and patience. I would easly tackle all but the seats now. The stereo surround, gauge pod, and logicon coulds be a bitch too.

I just remembered that there was a link I found with factory replacement carpet for a real good price. It was vacuum formed and everything. Also, 250 is kinda steep, but to be expected since I think you have to remove the dash to properly get the front carpet out. Other than that its real easy to replace the carpet, especially the rear ones. I highly recommend going to an auto parts store and getting the proper tool to remove the fur trees. You will break most of them and possibly tear the carpet other wise, and its super easy with this tool.
Edit: here's the link. 235 shipped for the whole carpet, front and back. Sounds like a pretty good deal for new carpet.

Sorry about that, heres the link: http://www.1aauto.com/1A/Carpets/Maz...ACC10445/11838
The fur trees are the plastic snap things that hold the carpet in place. They look like plastic circles on the carpet when they are installed, but some of them look like fur trees when you pull them out.
