is my car injecting oil
 

Hey, I've gotta 87 base, and changed the oil about 1000 miles ago. anyway, when filling it up, I put a tad too much in (6.5 quarts instead of 6.1). I just never worried about the extra because it burns it. Anyways, i pulled both the upper & lower intakes off, and the oil level hasn't gone down at all. is one of the oil injectors clogged? im positive the oil lines DID NOT break. Or, did the connecting rod for the OMP fall off of the OMP its self? It's hooked up to the throttle linkage & what not. I'm just a little concerned. Thanks for the help guys.

Mine takes a little less than 5 quarts when I change the oil. Did you drain the oil cooler too?

o shit.... nope didnt drain oil cooler, completely forgot about it (first time changing oil, first rotary car). i read on a fluid's guide on this board that it takes 6.1 quarts.

I don't drain the oil cooler, I don't know many people that do. Drain the oil and put 4 quarts in. Wait for the oil to settle, about 5-10mins. Check the dipstick and keep adding oil until it is full.

alright thanks for the help man. hope no one thinks im a mechanical moron, lol. think any damage was done? i drove it for about 1000 miles like i said.

No, no real damage can be done unless you like DOUBLE the capacity...which is like 10 quarts. :)

reading the manuals and other online stuff, i don't see how to (or the need to) drain the oil cooler... is that even necessary?

Not necessary. When I want to clean the oil cooler i just run some of that oil system flush from advance. It does wonders.

um... yeah, it still has hold residual oil in it, unless you have the thermal pelet in there. or hacked it somehows.

Tell you what. Disconnect the omp rod at the throttle linkage. One cotter key is all it takes. Zip tie the rod in the FULL UP position to the throttle body or where ever is nearby and make sure it can't possibly jam the throttle full open.

Now look at your dipstick when the car is cold. Go drive for three days and come back and look again at the dip stick. Same conditions....level car, cold engine. If the level is the same, something ain't a work'in. My experience doing this resulted in smoke on start up each time and a considerable drop in the oil level after a couple of days.

There's better ways, but that's one way of telling if the omp is working.

Another is IF you have clear omp lines, take the banjo bolts off and drain the oil out of the lines. PUt the lines back on. Start the car and idle the engine. LIft up on the linkage on the omp all the way and watch the oil in the lines ooooch up the line in small pulses. If all the lines have oil ooching up the line...........guess what.

IF you don't have clear lines.....make some.
