My brand new TII conversion died today.

She started pissing coolant today...after removing the undebelly and radiator panel, everything looks fine. Once the car builds pressure, coolant pours out of the over-flow so the coolant seals are toast even.

Here is the link for the sale of the car...I'm really bummed out but I can't afford to fix it now and new financial responsibilities mean the car would have to sit for a long long time. If you can pull/rebuild your own motors, this car is a steal for what it has and how clean it is.

Stock turbo, 12-13 psi with plenty of fuel via the rtek 1.7 chip. The car still ran a bit rich...

Make another offer if interested...

Again sorry to Hear... I actually like that car very much.... Mine is a little more performance orientated... But I always liked that car... inside and out... It is sad to hear that you have to sell her... would you take Donations toget her back on the road... I would donate what I could... :D

casio 11-30-04 01:04 PM

my stepdad told me something about how sometimes radiator caps are shot and people think their engine is overheating (or something like this; i should have listened better). is this by any chance a possibility? if not, sorry man.

ah, just saw this: Cusco 1.3 bar radiator cap (NEW)

I would gladly take donations to get it back on the road...I can't ask for that though, ya know?? I DO have another car (my daily Galant VR4) but still...who can ask for something like that (though I really appreciate it) Maybe I'l sell a couple things to keep her if the right offer doesn't come in.

Anyone want an RE Amemyia Type IV replica wing? Never installed, would get me $250 closer to fixing the FC.

These days, my $ is being saved as my gf and I are going to move out in the next few months.

SevenDreamz 11-30-04 01:16 PM

If the cap was the weak link, the coolant would pour from the car/waterneck. The system is just over-pressurizing and that can only mean 1 thing :( I put the OEM cap back on for the drive home today (so it wouldn't build as much pressure). I always kept a spare cap in the car just in case ;)

Rxmfn7 11-30-04 01:28 PM

No necessarily. My old N/A was doing the same thing, once the car warmed up, coolant would pour from the overflow bottle. My heart about sank, thinking it was blown. Just to see what if.. I bought a new mazda thermostat, and rad cap, and after replacing them, the problem stopped. Put a few thousand miles on since.

The Spyder 11-30-04 01:53 PM

Pull the EGI fuse, fill the coolant system, crank it over, get the bubbles out.
Now have a friend crank the car over, with the radiator cap off. Does the water pulse out? That would be bad coolant seals. Also you would notice white steamy smoke, or having to add water every couple of days.
Sounds more like a bad thermostat not opening and it building pressure and forcing it out the cap.

MarkPerez 11-30-04 01:56 PM

i agree,, try a different thermostat and while your at it flush the entire cooling system, just to make sure.

beefhole 11-30-04 02:02 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO I never even got to see it! I actually saw it parked outside Smokin Joe during the summer, but that doesn't count :(

jon88se 11-30-04 02:14 PM

The car HAS no thermostat :( We took it out after the swap just to be sure I'd have no overheating issues. I was going to put one in when the weather got cold...

It's a very difficult day...I got a quote from J&R to fix it this morning, it's a very friendly price (they feel my pain). Who knows what's gonna happen hehe

You let me know if I can help if you decide to sell a few parts... I will be glad to take a few off your hands.

Good Luck.. I agree with some of the others it very well not be that the engine is blown there are a number of causes for spewing coolant.
Check it out before you sell her.... she is too beautiful to get rid of!

The wing is for sale if you want it hehe

jreynish 11-30-04 02:35 PM

lol... thanks but don't need that one... lol

Bigretardhead 11-30-04 02:39 PM

so have you tried everything people have suggested yet?

coolant spewing out of the overflow tank doesn't mean shit. the radiator cap is designed to like open up once the cooling system gets to a certain pressure, and lets the pressure out into the overflow tank. if the cap were to fail, then it would be letting out coolant when its not neccesary, and would overflow the overflow tank.

I don't know about you, but I would be trying everything I could to make sure I knew exactly what the only problem could be, before I sold her.

jon88se 11-30-04 04:45 PM

I have another brand new cap (got a couple spares) to try but I'm not counting on anything.

That's a bad idea. I thought you're suppose to use a thermostat? ... That's probably your problem...

casio 11-30-04 05:17 PM

you can run cars without thermostats. takes a bit linger to warm up. reted has written about this a few times.

jon88se 11-30-04 05:31 PM

HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!

Well, after searching around a bit I found this post:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...r+cap+overflow

Here is the long and the short of it, when I got the car back last week I drove it and everything was beautiful. I took it for a drive on saturday and when I came back I did the normal "car is back from the shop" cleaning. While at the shop for some mods, I had my friends install a radiator cooling panel. They cut a nice hole for the overflow bottle...BUT, the way it was sitting it was difficult to open the cap to the overflow bottle.

SO, stupid me switched the tubes on the nozzle of the overflow cap so the tab on the cap would be reversed and on a side that was easier to pop open. I had no idea the nozzles on the overflow cap were different and NEEDED to be in the correct order.

It seems that THIS is the entire problem since I didn't drive the car after switching the cap until today!! I'll take her for a spin tomorrow to confirm... :) :)

The Spyder 11-30-04 05:40 PM

Hahah told ya it wasent blown. Good!
Let us know :).

Fitness Stain 11-30-04 05:40 PM

good to see it may notbe the end ...

beefhole 11-30-04 05:59 PM

Good lord and to think you were going to sell it!
