my ass is to big for my seat

alright no smart ass remarkes lol.
anyways i am a big guy 6'4 240. these seats were not designed for some american caliber. (T2 seats)
my question is this, has anyone had a automotive upholstery shop modify or widen the the seat
these things are realy killing me

KompressorLOgic 11-10-05 01:42 AM

yeah im kinda fat too and they seem kinda tight haha.....

the cheapest/easyest way i can think of to overcome this problem would be to buy a racing seat

sparco sells a "large person" racing seat it is called evo L, or evo XL , even larger ( 2" wider) i belive they are only non adjustable racing seats however......

RETed 11-10-05 01:45 AM

Sparco used to just call them the EVO2 and EVO3 seats.
They are just wider versions of their popular EVO seat.

I think they just renamed them, cause they are now called "EVO L" and "EVO XL".

Maybe you should trim down a little. I am 6'5 and fairly muscular and I fit in fine,,,,

If not, you could just find aftermarket seats....

rx7b13 11-10-05 03:38 AM

pepboys sells a good seat too and they are cheap

That's a real stupid thing to say.
Men are not like women (unless the original poster was a female???).
Men collect fat in their bellys.
Unless you're grossly overweight, not too much of that fat goes on your ass.
Thus, the hip bones dictate how big of a seat you can sit in comfortably.

I'm 6'1" 240#, and I absolutely do not fit in any of the standard Bride seats.
I also do not fit in the Sparco EVO (regular), but I fit in the the EVO2 or EVO L no problem.

Unless you meant "trim down a little" meaning shaving your hip bones???

I'm 6'4 and 260... but was blessed with a tiny little ass. :101384_l:

I fit on the bottom just fine but the top is a bit tight. Nothing too bad, or umcomfortable.

We big guys just get no love in the sports compact world :(

But once im in there, I'm fine...

The Miata however...... Yes... my head sticks up over the top of the windshield.. kinda scary to think about actually.....

I'm 6'3" 240.... still wear 36 Pants.... I like the top of the seat.... its the friggin bottom that kicks my ass... can't put a wallet in my pocket or my friggin leg will go to sleep!!!!

And to answer your question about the seat, yes, you can take it to an uphosltry shop and have it modified. I'm going to have that done myself when i get the seats -reupholstered, specifically i'm going to have the bottom side runners bent out about an inch on either side and the back side bolsters pulled out about half an inch on either side..

My buddy bought some off brand "racing seat" for his RX and, while they WERE wider.. ther were also about TWICE as heavy as the stock TII seats.... screw that! And at the price of those SPARCO's.... yeesh

Personally, I think its freakin funny when some little jackass starts giving me shit while i'm IN the car.... the looks on their faces when i pull my ass out of it and come after them is friggin PRICELESS!!!!

Dom_C 11-10-05 10:41 AM

I agree about the wallet thing. I can't sit in my seat with a wallet in my back pocket it kills. I'm only 6' 180#'s though. I fit pretty well

MattMan002 11-10-05 10:56 AM

now im only 5'5 140lbs....now my ass fits fine and the seat...obviously my head doesnt stick out the roof of my rx and it wouldnt cause i dotn have a sunroof...lol anyways point is first thing i do when i get in the car is take my wallet out and sit next to me....my leg gets in so much pain like that...the wallett dids into my leg and eventually it may fall asleep i havent had the privelage for that to happen tho....i feel u guys pain...lol stupid wallets :dark:

wyallen 11-10-05 11:08 AM

You don't need to take it to a shop. Every 7 I have purchased had screwed up foam on the left drivers leg bolster, so when I go in to fix that I bend the bar that supports the leg bolsters out by about 1 in on each side. Its a pretty easy process, just a pain in the butt to remove and replace all those hog rings. Just make sure you hold the base of the leg bolster bar (I use a big vice) as the seat frame metal isn't that thick and the welds between the bar and the frame usually are quite small (I use big vice grips to bend the bar).

While your in there, use that white stringy tough fabric (batting or backing??) and spray glue to reconstruct things (use the 3M spray glue, don't use that junk you'll find at automotive stores, I don't know what its called, but it looks like it should be sold on an infomercial) . I rebuilt my foam this way in my TII over 6 years ago and it still looks and feels new.

Wow, that's crazy!
The stock seats are a little over 30 lbs. - you saying those seats were close to 70 lbs. each???

And at the price of those SPARCO's.... yeesh
eBay to the rescue!
I've been scanning eBay for Sparco EVO2's for the past several months now.
I've gotten close, but I haven't won one yet.
I always keep getting overbid by one overzealous buyer! :P
There was an EVO3 (wider than the EVO2, and can't confirm if it'll even fit in the FC!) that went for a little over $350 a few days ago; the seat was in good shape, but the "wings" were faded (seat was black) - the winning bid for ~$370 was a steal, as brand new the EVO3 retails for $729!

Prior to that, there were a COUPLE auctions for PAIRS of EVO2's, and they went for a little over $900.
That's a damn good price for seats that cost $699 (retail) each!
In fact, one auction for a pair of them were BRAND NEW EVO2's (with sliders and side mounts) - the seats were just fitted into a project car then yanked - literally zero miles on them.
I'm surprised the seats actually pop up pretty regularly on eBay...

I better shut up now, cause I'm giving away all my parts hording secrets! :D

yeah i feel ya, i can get both of my t2 seats redone in suede for the price of one sparco and bracket. altough i would like a set of sparcos some day

Natey 11-10-05 11:40 AM

lol. I'm 6'2"/ 185 and my ass hurts to even LOOK at a Bride seat. I fit into my stock seat fine, but the previous owner of my car must have had a bony ass because 1/2 of the cusion is collapsing. After an hour or so sitting on a half-blown out seat, I feel like I need a Backyotomy.

Personally, I've been checking into Corbeau CR-1s.

just messin with u....cause im no where near as tall as some of u guys and i already find getting in and out of the car a PITA.....like my leg sometimes wont fit between seat and the steering wheel if i lower it to the max.....

90WhiteVrt 11-10-05 01:16 PM

First thing I do when I get in my car is stuff my wallet, cell phone and other crap into the center console. I hate driving with ANYTHING in my pockets, to uncomfortable. I'm 5'10 180, so i'm kinda stocky and getting in and out can be a pain with my shoulders but i make do.

arghx 11-10-05 02:29 PM

^ Yeah I always take my shit out. It's really uncomfortable otherwise.

My 88 GTU came stock with T2 seats, and with 150k on them they are in awesome condition. There is about a centimeter wear spot on the driver side bolster, that's all. All the cushions are fine. When I get into the car I usually contort my body a little bit to avoid wearing the side bolster if I can.

SideWindeRx7 11-10-05 03:09 PM

Jesus you guys are either fat or body builders... I'm going to go with fat. :)
I'm 6' 180 and I fit perfectly :)

Taka87 11-10-05 03:51 PM

I'm 5' 10" @ 175 and I fit perfectly.

BigMike85 11-10-05 03:55 PM

you guys are all short! Im 6'8" about 300lbs and I fit in my non running car enough to pretend to drive :uh:

I'm 6'3", 250lbs, 36" waist. I'm only a little chubby, I would say, I'm more muscular with very broad shoulders. The shoulder width is what has kept me out of most seats. My hips only seem to keep me out of the average FIA approved fixed back seats. I just purchased a pair of sparco EVO 2's, I'm hoping that they will do the trick.

Ted, any interest if they dont fit me? The only downside (from my standpoint) is that they are blue. I was going to check into having them dyed black or something if I end up really liking the fit.

No problem.
I was just going to order them through a vendor brand new since I was having bad luck getting them used off eBay.

I'm 6'1", 240#, 40" waist dropping to a 38" soon :P
I'm a tight fit in the EVO2, but I'm trying to drop down to under 230# and a solid 38" waist in the next few months - that should make it just about perfect.

No problem about the color either, as my car is blue. :)

Drop me a note if things don't work out for you...

I was a 40" waist about 5 months ago... I hadnt worn jeans up until a few weeks ago, and when it finally got cold, none of them fit! I somehow lost 4" off my waist without really doing much. I had lost about 26lbs.... but when you start out in the 275-280 range... that really isnt a lot of weight. Pretty weird.

Anyway, I should have them sitting in my garage later next week... I will post some fittiment info and pictures on this thread when I test fit them in the TII. I might still have to replace them with the stockers if I get my car running sooner than expected. I dont want to run fixed back seats without at least a roll bar, so they will have to wait until that goes in too.

trochoid 11-10-05 11:44 PM

I'm 5-10 usually around 180, with a fairly skinny ass. I put a TII drivers seat in my 87 for a 1300 mile road trip and hated it. The side bolster on the TII seat has an extra bar inside the foam that the other stock seats don't have. They poked me in the hips the whole trip.

If you can find a set of stock seats, try those. Another option is to remove the cover and padding from the bolsters, then heat and bend the bar on each side out. That may give you enough room.

yea i thought about doing that but i dont know if i would ever get the cover back on. i am not a an expert.
on my first set of t2 seats i peeled back the side of the cover and took some heavy duty bolt cutters and removed the the support then grounded it smooth with a dye grinder. big mistake very uncomfortable

Just guessing here, but moving the rods out a 1/2-1" should give you enough room. Also by bending them, they will lower a little. Give it a try, if nothing else, you can bend them back. The covers shouldn't be a problem, it's usually the foam that has split due to the rod that's the problem.

You guys have wallets?? after getting my rx i basically just carry my 1.08 to wendys in change in the ashtray...you lucky bastard...my wallets been long gone into retirement for some time now...

Geez...

Are all you fat bastards the one pulling your a/c's and powersteering units, stripping the carpets and sound deadening material to reduce weight and make your car faster?

If so, you just might think additional weight saving opportunities :)

BTW, I my '90 vert and I could also stand to lose a little around the middle.

Fatty.

arghx 11-11-05 10:34 AM

T2 seats are some of the most supportive and comfortable seats I have ever been in. I think FD seats are more supportive but aren't as good for long road trips.

jenkin 11-11-05 10:36 AM

my ass gets wedged in tight enough that after about an hour of fway, my left leg starts hurting and going to sleep. wallet already in briefcase i bought to carry all my stuff. finally ditched the t2 seats and put in a set of gxl's... better comfort, more sliding around. (oh, 5'11"
235, 54" chest, 18 1/2 x 36 dress shirts, short legs!!) sort of a gorilla aspect....
dont even have $1.08-just the plastic debit card....
