My $600 RX7

Just bought it 2 days ago for 600 bucks. it needs a little body work and some tlc, maybe some paint but the motor runs strong and overall is in great shape. it has a few issues that i'm workin on fixing.

My first question: My dash lights don't work..... I checked he fuses and pulled the cluster to check the connections they were all fine. i belive i read somewhere something about the switch being bad or something. Anyone have any ideas on how to check that or what might be wrong thanks

specialop 03-13-08 02:02 PM

If your running lights don't work either, then your headlight switch and harness need replacing.

johnmasters 03-13-08 02:10 PM

Thats like buying a good engine for $600 that comes with a free car. NICE BUY!

Bondga 03-13-08 02:13 PM

my headlight and running lights work just not the cluster lights.

texFCturboII 03-13-08 02:41 PM

Awesome buy! Looks a hell of a lot better than my 750$ RX-7!!!!
Yea, check the switch... wait, if the running lights work then it's not the switch... make sure the dimmer isn't turned all the way down, lol.

yes, great deal man, mine was $800 (listed at $1000), and the body on mine was much work, and has an exhaust leak

Alex6969 03-13-08 03:42 PM

I'd pay $800 for an RX that didn't have a ripped driver's seat.

Great find,:icon_tup: but you do know there is no such thing as a $600 RX7? Search for a post where everyone tells how much they have spend on their 7.:)

Good luck and welcome to the community!

I can tell red is the color of choice of vehicles in your household.

Fumi 03-13-08 07:07 PM

nice rx7 for only 600. what are your plans for it?

w0ppe 03-13-08 07:13 PM

Wowzors! You're $2400 up on me! Very good!

Hypertek 03-13-08 07:16 PM

dam nice find..

the body looks great, probably not much work needed.. you could prep it yourself and have a 1 day shop spray it cheap and have it come out awesome

MmSadda 03-13-08 07:39 PM

That's pretty fantastic, man!

However, despite the fact that the engine feels good, I would have it compression tested if it is over 100k miles on the engine. Oh, and give it a full tune-up and fluid change... just standard procedure for a newly-purchased RX7, unless you have records of that all being done recently.

i would still do it regardless that way you know it done and done correctly, plus it'll get you acustomed to working on your 7

+1

I bought my rx7 for $500 off a coworker.
89 GTU needs paint badly and oil seals are going.

$1500 dollars later and it still looks the same on the outside.

Same engine closing on 180k miles and still going! Still debating if i want to spend the money on a fullblown rebuild or a jdm turbo swap.

Stranded 03-13-08 09:44 PM

Nice find! I got a beat up parts car for that much.

@spinitsidewayz

no question, do the jdm turbo swap.

asiandude15 03-13-08 10:05 PM

misterstyx69 03-13-08 11:40 PM

Scrims 03-14-08 01:42 AM

I just bought my '86 GXL for $3 (yes $3)... but that was from my dad, lol. And you have the one up on me, because mine is currently in lots of pieces in my garage, since the engine is blown.

Acesanugal 03-14-08 03:19 PM

My GXL was $400...and another $100 bought me a good spare motor and transmission.

Paint needs to be waxed every month or two months to keep it looking good in the sunlight.

Runs like a damn top! Love it..

Bama420 03-14-08 03:30 PM

Nice find. I would say one of those issues you are speaking of is that it has 4 exhaust tips. I'm paying $600 for my 88 GXL. Hurray for $600 RX7s.......of course, I have already spent $100 in parts and have $150 to go before it's drive-able.
