Can't get tires off

Ok my freaking tires wont come off, im trying to change my brake pads, and i cant get the freaking tires off. I cant get it off with the tire iron, and even air tools are not getting them off. Has any body come across this before, and if so what can i do?

I have an 86 GXL no mods..

The lug nuts wont come off or the tire wont come off. I ask since I've experienced both scenarios.

For the lugs: Spray with some penetrating oil. Put the tire iron on a lug, and pop the iron with something like a deadblow hammer.

For the wheels: Hit them with a deadblow from underneth the car, toward to outside of the car. Turn the wheel and repeat.

Lug nuts wont come loose. I tried to use a little bit of penatrating lube, but i ran out, the lug i used it on though still would not come off.

i've had this problem, but on my 240. seriously, the fastest/easiest way to get them off is just to drill out the stud or try to break the stud off some how and just replace them after you get the wheel off.

Impact wrench, with tons of torque, does the trick. I just had to do it the other day

Unfortunatley, I dont have one of those.

A local rental store should be able to hook you up for about 10 bucks.. it'll be well worth it to rent it for 3 hours.. just make sure you loosen (Then tighten!) ALL of your lugnuts while you have the impact wrench, so you never have to worry abou this again.

Sounds cheap enough, thanks.

Are you using that cheap ass lug wrench provided with the car??? You need a four way lug wrench available from any parts store or Walmart.

No im not using that excuse for a tire iron, im using a 4 way.

Take your car to a tire shop, have them take off the lugs, put "never seize" on the studs and zip em back on shouldn't cost much man.

socrstd 06-03-05 09:47 AM

i took my 240 to a shop, they couldn't get the nuts off, i got an impact wrench, that wouldn't get the damn things off. so, if all this fails, i'm telling you, just drill out or break the studs off and replace them.

it sounds like whoever took your tires off before you put them back on with an impact wrench... The lugs nuts NEED to be torque'd correctly (80 ft lbs of torque for the FC).

Never let anyone put your lugnuts on w/ an impact wrench, most dumbass' have no clue wtf they're doin w/ those things.

Get a 3/4 inch wrench with the right size socket and get a 4ft steel pipe and use as a breaker bar. Had to snap two of mine off but it worked.

I made the mistake of letting candian tire inspect how much my brake pads were worn down. They were the closest and i had to time to bring it else where.
