MUFFLERS -> What to buy that will sound OK

I am going to get a custom exhaust with a resonator, but I also want some good sounding mufflers, what do you recommend?
I am not talking really loud ones, somthing at least around the 75 dB limit
But with a little BASS and a little less lawnmower
Thanks for any replies.

The GReddys are deep, quiet and throaty at idle, but rip pretty good under full throttle. I have the SP, which I don't think they make anymore and it sounds pretty cool going under overpasses.
Unfortunately, they're expensive. I was willing to pay because it's worth it to me to not have a ricey-sounding exhaust that drones while cruising. Been there...

I just have some generic free flow (you can look straight through from one end to another) stainless mufflers from a local speed shop. I have been told by many that my car is the best sounding RX-7 they've ever heard, and I tend to believe it. I believe the mufflers I got were made by Variant Performance in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Might be something to think about...Although I'm running the Bonez cat with resonator, so that may have something to do with it.
Well if you can find the Greddy it has a 3" tip. There is a post on here from a guy that has the cork sport with a 2.5" tip he say a ouund bite on here too.

I have a N1 on my 91 n/a, and man, it rips at WOT. I am installing my header and presilencer on Tuesday (fingers crossed) and it wil be VVVEEERRRYYY loud. I suggest getting the RB system. Supposed to be nice and deep, but not ricey.
75dB?  You know that's like ambient room conversation???
The quietest mufflers on the market are made from either HKS or Racing Beat.  Else, run any chambered muffler, and it'll kill the noise.  Chambered mufflers also kill flow and performance.  What's a chambered muffler?  Anything you can't stick a broomstick handle through...

No. A 250 hp prephial ported n/a with full race exhaust will shake the ground. But that is the only way to get serious power from an n/a. Ever been to a drag race? Notice ALL of the cars are LOUD. When it comes to exhaust, open = horse power, open = LOUD. Sorry. You gotta decide what is important for you. For me, noise dosen't matter. Only horse power.
I've got a T-II.
and I'm not so sure that loud is required for free flow...
our buick park avenue has a 3" exhaust all the way back (including through the muffler) and you can't hear the engine at 5000RPM at WOT from ten feet away... the car is SO quiet you can't tell if it's running or not at ANY rpm or ANY throttle position.
and that exhaust hasta be free flowing enough to make power if you attach it to a smaller engine than the 5.7l v8 that it has.

About the quietest thing you can do to a FC turbo is to run the (old) Racing Beat full turbo exhaust...

Im still throwing around the idea of running dual Borla XR-1's as mufflers, and a couple bullet mufflers in the midpipe area as 'pre-sillencers'.
Of course, this won't happen until the 20b makes its way into the engine bay!

As an experiment you might try just the Bonez race pipe with your factory mufflers. I had a straight pipe on mine with the factory mufflers and I really liked the way it sounded. My current setup is to loud for me. I've got dual Supertrapps in place of the factory stuff. If I could do it all over again I'd get the Bonez race pipe and the walker dynomax catback from www.mazdatrix.com but then thats just me for my daily driver.
Your resonator (presilencer) is the key. The mufflers determine how loud you hear the presilencer. The presilencer sets the tone. The sharp exhaust pulses from a rotary will ting against light gage metal. You probably want a heavy gage, long, straight through presilencer

Sorry, but this is next to impossible on a rotary.
