Muffler Replacement

I ran a search but could not find what I need.

I have a NA FC with a bad muffler. The left one sounds like a walrus fart.

I have a stock system but I will be installing a RB downpipe and presilencer as soon as I can get the time.
I have gone on E Bay and found a ton of so called high performance mufflers but I don't know if any of them will work. They are not shaped the same as stock and no mounting bars or rods.

Anyone had any experience with this issue? I would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

I think that the inlet is too large and they are a weld on type. BTW were you talking about those cheap N1 style knockoffs?

GregSL-SE 07-18-04 10:55 AM

first of all, you're the only person i've known to hear a walrus fart...lol. RacingBeat is a good place to start, ApexN1, couple of others. Rb are a direct replacement- I know.

Spend the few extra bucks and go with the complete RB system - you will be very happy with the results - looks, performance and durability!

I've got a catback for sale from Rotary performance that might work for you. It includes the Y-pipe and mufflers and I know it will fit up with a Bonez superflow Cat system. All the hangars, etc are welded on and fit up great with the stock mounting point. I'm also in NC. Let me know if you are interested.

Catback

Where in NC are you? I might come and have a look.

I have the same problem and have decided to go with a Borla system. (Not looking to get into another flame war over this ;p) the research I have done proves to me that investing $200-300 in a good cat-back system is actually cheaper in the longrun than repeatedly buying crappy boltons.

Just my 2¢

mali_FC 07-18-04 01:56 PM

go for Magna Flows :)

Batguano 07-18-04 04:58 PM

Mr P. Where can I find a cat back system for $200-300??

rmills1276 07-18-04 05:12 PM

i am doing the same thing because i want some strait through mufflers for my strait piping, i dont see why cheap strait throughs off ebay wont flow better than the 14yo mufflers i have now.

My local "allspeed" store has an apex system for $250 (clearance sales :bigthumb: ) A rare find but if you spend a few weeks shopping you can find a few also. For the most part they are not 100% chrome, but functional non the less!

Mine is in excess of 400, and that after dude a Nopi cut me a discount, so don't expect a premium set; but a good set can be found! Call around, or do like I did and get in with some of the local cc's.

Mr Pilkington 07-18-04 11:39 PM

Its not the best, but nopi has this deal going:

In store its even cheaper!

'walrus fart', now that's a new one :)

since you are obviously on a budget, the first thing i would recommend is to TRY to save some money for a decent cat-back made for the 7. the Racing Beat system is good and proven, and the Borla system is actually not bad for the price either. if you don't want to do that, you could just buy 2 of those straight through mufflers on eBay and get an exhaust shop to do some minor custom fabrication. i am doing this, and i am getting a straight pipe to replace the convertors and a new Y-pipe. should flow real nice, but i am worried about sound...
keep in mind that some of the mufflers on eBay are better than others (or not as bad). these are the ones i got:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

sure it is still a shiny straight-through can, but it is slightly better quality than the $30 mufflers. also, i wouldn't be too worried about durability with these mufflers. the fact that they are so cheap and that there is pretty much nothing in them except stainless steel means that not much can get fried or corroded in there.

scheistermeister 07-19-04 03:48 AM

is that one on nopi just single exhaust and not dual?

Thanks. That is the muffler I was looking at.

I agree. My system includes a 3" DP into a Racing Beat presilencer, custom y back to two magnaflows. I LOVE how my exhaust sounds...
