motor mount install
 

so i just got my mazda oem comp. engine mounts. im gonna install them after work today at the shop i work at, i have no clue how much of a pain these are and how long it takes to do them? some quick feed back would be great, thanks!

it's just a few bolts on each mount. You should prob drop the tranny mounts also so you can move the engine around (with proper jacking of the engine/tranny). I am not an expert on this but I think it will be more easy if you take the right mount off first. The mount(left) with the coolant drain plug is a bitch. It was a pain in the ass when I was trying to reinstall my engine. If worse come to worse try going to the faq and reading the online fsm

takes half hour or less... when i did it for the first time.

but my car has nothing but a engine, alt, carb and dizzy. no ac no ps no anything.

ok, i thought they would be a pain to do, well i was wrong. did them in about 30min with out air tools on a lift with a screw jack. i undid the top bolts then the bottom ones from under the car(top ones vary easy to get to with a ratcheting 14mm wrench) then lifted motor from the bellhousing with a screw jack, motor is so light it has no problems lifting it, then the motor mounts just fell out, well at least the left one did since it was in two!. i had to take off the aluminum bracket on the right side to get the new one back in, its kinda diffacult to get it in with out removing it.
you just have to make shure that the little tabs on the new mounts line up in there slots in the brackets bolted to the motor otherwise they dont mount flush.

after installing them i went for a nice spirited drive around the block, wow! i can feel the motor so much better, way better throttle response and engine feed back.

Replacing motor mounts while the engine is in is surprisingly a very easy affair.

Good job! Tranny mounts are much more difficult. They were for me, anyways.

Tranny mounts seem like they would be WAY easier... you just have to hold the tranny up... the crossmember drops right down.

that cross member does not want to line up for crap, when i did my clutch i spent 20min trying to get the bolts lined up.

They would be if you didn't have to unbolt the exhaust...

They're much harder than you expect, either way.

Wow.... I've never had problems with that... Maybe your car has frame damage?

Edit: Or.. maybe your bad engine mounts mis-aligned everything just a little? Thats how my parts car was... it was all cock-eyed. :)

When I changed out my motor mounts I just got a tranny lift and put it under the oil pan. I had to remove the motor mount arms and such but was actually pretty easy.

Did you notice a rougher idle or anything after? I heard this is common with the solid motor mounts. Where did you get your mounts from?
