most boost w/o haltech

Whats the most boost you T2 guys have run without haltech??? dosent have to be stock turbo, but how much can the motor take with just an s-afc?

About 12 to 13 lbs is as fas as I recommend just to be safe... Remember to buy the anti fuel cut-off from mazdatrix or whoever sells it. Otherwisw your car will get no more fuel to the secondaries after 8.7 lbs of boost... Also make sure that you are running 84-85 GSL-SE secondary injectors...

dcamcoTII 02-21-02 09:03 PM

I already have an FCD if thats what you're talking about, and I will be running at least 720 secondaries.

ReZ311 02-21-02 09:09 PM

are 720 CC secondaries adequit for 10-12 PSI of boost on stock turbo with a Greddy old school FIMC? oh. stock fuel pump too.

I got the racing beat FCD. how safe is 10-12 PSI?

dcamcoTII 02-21-02 09:10 PM

get a new fuel pump for that kind of boost, walbro is cheap and easy to install.

ReZ311 02-21-02 09:15 PM

yeha. I agree on the Fuel pump. What about a fuel pressure regulator? is that necessary for 10-12 PSI? I am basically maxing out my stock turbo. I will have the FMIC at the same time.

So. 720 cc secondaries.
Nice beefy fuel pump.
boost set @ 10-12 PSI on manuel boost controller
racing beat FCD
I have a streetport on my motor. 89+ series 5 motor.
The old school Greddy FMIC.

Safe or not safe? I want reliable w/ no detonation.

oh., I run a 13.67 with 7-8 heat-soaked PSI at the 1/4 dragstrip @ 3,500 ft of altitude. LACR Palmdale raceway, CA. not bad i think. I need more power though. I want to break 13's. high 12s. =)

dcamcoTII 02-21-02 09:30 PM

well the manual boost controller probably wont be necessary as you should reach that kind of boost anyways. But you do need something to control the new secondaries, try an s-afc. Im by no means an expert but i think that should do it. As far as the FPR goes i dont think you will need it but i cant say that for sure.

live4boost 02-21-02 09:36 PM

on the series 4 turbo I would not run more than 10psi, and on the series 5 I wouldn't run more than 12. Thats only with a free flowing exhaust. You guys will really be stressing out you turbo and motor running that much. I would go with a turbo upgrade for more boost.

ReZ311 02-21-02 09:37 PM

ok. kool thanks. I have an HKS PFC-FCON, but it is not working correctly. I think I am going to change the ROM chip in it b/c it is the wrong one. The S-AFC I would not use/// Instead I would get an HKS GCC b/c it works with the HKS PFC-FCON. the S-AFC is good though.

My question is if the 720 cc secondaries are adequit enough for 12 PSI of boost. =)

as far as i know yes, they should be. All i wanna know is with a turbo upgrade and a stock motor with a sufficient fuel system, how much boost can I run without a haltech?

ReZ311 02-21-02 09:52 PM

hmm. good question. I think 14 and on up is risky. Call www.rx7.com and ask them. they are kool and will answer your question. Just act like you are gonna buy a FCD.

Akagi_Red_Sun 02-21-02 09:57 PM

maybe you guys can tell me where my reasoning is wrong on this one. I would think that between the series 4 and 5... series 4 would be safer to run higher boost on due to the lower compression rotors?

They have different style turbo systems. Thats why the series 5 runs 7.5psi stock and the 4 only runs 5.5 stock. The exhaust side of the turbo on the hitachi turbo is really restrictive.

As for the most boost w/o haltech. I would say 12 on a stock motor, 14 on a ported motor with risks and really good fuel system. But why take the risk? Im selling my new SAFC and going haltech
