more probs...
its take a fewe turns of the key to even get the car to start. and when it does, it turns over really slow. in addition to that, when im driving everytime i hit a bump or pothole my clock turns off and if i hit another bump it turms back on but it resets to 1:00. so theres no sense actually setting the time. and the same goes for the radio, on and off resets. the car doesnt stall when eveything switches off. i wonder whats going on??

If all this is just now happening it must be related? no??
Look for bad connections especially grounds on engine and body. |
Coincidence...

just changed the starter. probs still there.

808FC,,,need answers,,,
Aaron thinks you have several different problems, but it sounded to me like they all occured at the same time??? If the starter is behaving the same as your 1st description """its take a fewe turns of the key to even get the car to start. and when it does, it turns over really slow""" (( IF we are talking about the sarter turning slow)) Then you have probably a bad connection or battery. The ignition switch will either work or not, but will NOT cause the starter to turn slow. A slow turning starter (assuming you now have a new one in there) is a sign that it is not getting enough voltage. The problem could be a corroded grnd. , or loose or corroded battery terminals , or the battery it self. "IF" all the other problems started to happen at the same time, then it is very likely they are related to the same cause. Inquiring minds want to know! ;) |
where is the battery grounded to the chasis? i tried following the wire but they all just get loomed together and i cant tell whats going where.

Sorry for the delay. I will have to check to be sure. Did all your problems start to happen at once?? Does the radio and clock go off at the same time?? Is ANY other electrical device affected as well, like gauges, or lights?? You did say that the engine keeps running, correct??

You did say that the engine keeps running, correct?? 2. the radio and clock do shut off at the same time. 3. nothing else is affected but that. at least for all that i can see radio and the clock are the only things. 4. the engine runs fine, whether the things are on or off. |
I hate to ask about the battery, but, If it is not putting out enough current, the starter will turn slow. Can you get it checked. IF the battery is good, then you still may have a bad connection somewhere. I'll look later for where the major connections are, and also see if I can find where the clock and radio share a circut. Aaron may be right about cold solder joints, and since you don't know how the problem started, you can't tell if it is one problem or 2. The BIG wires from the battery should go to the starter and engine. The negative cable may go "thru" a connector tied to the chassis, and terminate at the engine. If a "tight" connection is corroded, it may be bad, even being tight. It may well be that the fix will only come with a full visual inspection of the cables. I'll try to get back later with more info.
