I'd be interested in seeing something with LED's.. I've seen a pic of a jap fc with them.. looked ok.

rx7 FC TII 04-13-07 08:49 AM

its been done...i saw a pic of it a few months back but it looked pretty ricey....

why would you want your car to look up to date anyway?....

CyberPitz 04-13-07 08:50 AM

I'd rather have s5 tails on my car....LEDs just really don't turn me on.

No but i'm sure the wing is functional and that FC can run laps if not time zones around your car.

Too bad its too ugly to matter

Problem : car looks outdated, want a updated look...

solution : The car isnt for you if you dont like the way it looks, go get yourself another car (more effective if 2008 but 2007 model will do) and be happy.

magus2222 04-13-07 10:55 PM

hm, nice solution mechanic..........cept not.

magus2222 04-14-07 06:01 PM

no, the spider LED's would make it look wierd, they are the types that look like stars. and who is sexyknights? and i agree, awsome looking lights.
everyone has their own oppinion.

I think LED's would only look right if you had enough of them, something like 20 per light.

The lights look terrible. S5 lights dont look outdated. Even if they did, if you arent into old school JDM, you own the wrong car. There are no "modern" type items that look right on our car.

I believe he asked for information not an oppinion poll.

Look back at your posts the next time you ponder of a high flow intake/exhaust set up or stand alone fuel manager. LEDs are brighter, more reliable, and save on tail light tickets. Why would the high end producers provide them without option if they weren't above and beyond? We all update, he just thought of safety first...

Both carry a limited supply of led tails, as well as HIDs for the front, put the update on all four corners. You may need to drop em a line and ask for FC pricing and availability, may be a special order deal. Might even ask about a group buy if it is, may get a little discount and sounds like more than a couple people are interested already.

Jesus
Just go to radioshack, the led's there are cheap.
Im going to attempt this for my old set of s5 tails.
Im gonna take a plexi glass ring, cut to exact shape of tailight hole.
Drill holes in plexiglass that are size of led's.
Mount led's into plexi glass.
Solder all wires to led's to wires coming from my extra stock harness.
DONE
Quite cheap actually.

LED taillights will not make a 20yo car look "up-to-date". That's not my opinion, it's a fact.

Calling them brighter is a gross oversimplification. Most cheap LED solutions I've seen were not as bright as stock lights and had poor light dispersion as well. They can be brighter if dome properly, but to assume any LED's you use will be brighter is just plain wrong.

As for reliablilty, In my entire car-owning life I've never replaced a stop/tail bulb in any car I've owned, and I've replaced maybe half a dozen in other cars over the years. IMO reliability of the stock set-up is simply not an issue, so improving it is of very little actual value. And as for tickets, how many have you actually had?

You can't compare OEM LED taillights with DIY custom conversions of old housings. Designing a cluster from scratch will always result in a vastly superior set-up.

I've yet to see a drop-in LED taillight replacement bulb that didn't look like complete ass. They don't put out as much light as the stock incandescent bulb and look like a tiny bright spot.

To get LED's in a brightness and quantity that will be at least as bright as the stock lights will not be cheap, far from it. If you want to do this properly and get a result that outperforms the stock lights, don't go cheap. You will be very disappointed.

phoenix7 04-15-07 12:44 PM

in other words If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Go pick your nose and stop trying to do random crap to your car when it doesn't need it.
