Modding na driveshaft **HELP**
I have done searches, but have come up with nothing. My T2 engine and tranny are coming in today, but I don't have a rear end I can use the driveshaft with. I want to mod my na driveshaft to work with the T2 tranny. Does anyone know how to do this?

Evidently an automatic slip yoke will fit the TII trans and your NA driveshaft, but it isn't a good fit in the trans. Better find yourself a TII diff/axles/driveshaft and get the job done right.

Most cities have a drive shaft shop that can build a custom shaft pretty cheap.
|
I tried to get a driveshaft made by three different shops here and they each wanted 300+. I was not up for that. The auto tranny driveshaft is about an inch and a half short so I put the slip yoke on an n/a driveshaft. I bought an auto tranny driveshaft for 50 from another forum member and took the slip yoke off of it by pressing out the old u-joints and put it on the n/a driveshaft after pressing out the u-joints. I put replaceable u-joints in from arizonadrivelines.com, and I think they were 20 somthing shipped a piece. My opinion that is not a bad price and plus you then have not only replaceable u-joints but they are also servicable.

That $300 probably includes all the labour, BALANCING and a warranty, so it's a fairly good deal.
Mazdatrix sells a driveshaft that lets you go from the TII transmission to an NA rear end, but it's around $300. :) |
Thanks for all the help guys. Even though my budget is pretty tight, I think I may go with the Mazdatrix shaft.
|
a temp fix would be to make a 1" metal plate spacer with 4 bolt holes and longer driveline bolts, for the end of the driveshaft( using the auto driveline) thats what i did, it wasnt very balanced and vibrated pretty bad when going above 50, but it worked, and i needed to drive the car! been driving it a month like that and its still holding.
a shop could machine u a piece for under 100 i bet.( my dads work did it for free :) ) note this is not the " right" way to do it, the drivelines going to break eventually.... but if you dont have 300 thats the only cheaper way i can think of to get the car moving. |
I don't really need the car that bad, I have two other I can drive. But thanks for the idea.

Is it just me, but does everyone have a small budget with these cars? Noone ever wants to pay for something done right it seems (not referring to anyone here).
Good luck however. |

haha, whatever REted. I love my 86.

I had a Zenki hatch.
I thought it was a piece of shit. My FC would run rings around it. -Ted |

you can take the NA drive shaft and put the At slip yoke on the front of it. if for some reason its not long enough, a shop can retube the driveshaft and make it longer for you. shouldnt be more than $100. if it is, tell them to go pound sand.
go to a 4x4 or commercial truck shop that deals w/ Box trucks and the like. |

i like this guy, hes got good taste; rx7's and toyotas. corollas are a start, we need to get you on a supra regimen too ;)
|
Supra's are awsome cars, but slightly on the big side for me. If I am to purchase another vehicle, it is a toss up between fd and nsx. I don't know if I want to go mid engine though.

Good luck however. if we had money, we would all be driving FD's. but you gotta admit, the average "cheap" FC owner will come up with some pretty clever ways to hop up the car for little $$. |
thats true, or at least we would buy real turbo II's lol
|
yeah, i suppose i would own an FD if i could. but id much rather own a MKIV instead. i know guys going REALLY fast in TT's... the old joke "whats the difference between a 400 rwhp and a 800rwhp supra? Nothing, they both run 13's" doesnt hold true anymore. my friend runs 12.5's with DP, exhaust, intake and EBC. i know guys running 9's on street tires with liscense plates too. either way, people like what they like. so if you like an NSX or an FD or whatever, get it!
