Mobil 1 gear lube sucks!

Drained and replaced my trannt fluid (manual tranny) with mobil 1 and it's notchy shifting as hell. Too slick I wonder? I can't get redline in my area. Only Amsoil or regular oil, Castoil, pensoil, ect. ANy recomendations? I need to get it changed by Saturday night.

Redline is the same in my experience, too slick. I took a page out of the Porsche book and use the swepco 201 -- awesome stuff!

i know in a previous car i switched to redline and it was great, but i really didn't start to see the effects of it until i'd put a few hundred miles on it with the new fluid. I'd give it a chance for a couple hundred miles before replacing it.

My Impreza grinds going into first every once in a while, but Mobil one has been great in my 7..

It takes about 50-100 miles for new gear lube to work its way into the gears... if it is notchy off the bat, you may wish to check your fluid levels.

Royal purple gear lube worked wonders on my 150k+ TII trans. 2nd is a little notchy due to a bad syncro. But every other gear is real smooth.

Advance Auto Parts is the only major chain carrying Redline. Do you have one in your area? I just went there and they had to order it. Do not let them tell you they do not carry it. Guys behind the counter had to search for the SKU. They did not find it doing a search on Redline on their computer. It was 7.99 a quart. Will need 3.

I replaced my 75w90 syn Mobile 1 gear oil with 80w90 syn valvoline. There was much improvement..... well, I also changed my seals and my clutch at the same time. But the point is, it works great.

Try www.summitracing.com Last time I checked they were selling them for about $7/quart free shipping and no tax unless you are in Nevada or Ohio.

That is weird Mobil one has worked good for me?

incendui 09-22-04 04:54 PM

I went from redline mt90 to mobil 1 75w-90, and redline was definitly smoother, though that may've been because its a heavier oil.
Still, both are better than whatever was in the car when I got it. Unless you already had a good synthetic in the transmission, I don't know why it would be worse after the mobil 1.

I USED LUCAS TRANS OIL (not motor oil) and mixed it with a good synthetic trans oil from advance auto and it been great for me, but thats just me, not giving any advice or what not.

Ya hey, can i get more opinions on this Lucas stuff. I've seen it around and i've heard people say good things about it when they used it on piston cars, but i dunno anything about their tranny fluid.
