Missing some standard features...

I know I've made quite a few thread already, but this is really starting to confuse me. Let me explain.

I just bought a '91 Coupe in Brave Blue with 95,000kms on it for $4,000. It has no A/C, no rear wiperblade, no rear "wrap around" spoiler and I don't think it has the adjustable lumbar and thigh support. But this is where it gets weird. It has the power sunroof and halogen fog lights (I think) and the tilt steering, so it seems to have the A package, but like I said it's missing some things. I don't even know if it has the 4 piston front and rear ventilated brakes because he replaced the rotors and I didn't think to check if the front brake is a 4-piston.

Does anyone have an idea of what could be going on? It's a Canadian car, but I doubt they messed with the options that much in 91...

I could venture a guess but for that guess to be educated I would have to ask questions.

Every USD 91 coupe had a rear spoiler. I assume the same would be true for CAD cars. Has the car been repainted? Check the inside of the rear metal where the spoiler would have been mounted it should be easy to tell if the spoiler was removed and the holes were filled.

Post some pics.

Your car is twenty years old and who knows what "they" have done to it in that time.
The fact that all the accessories are basically bolt on (and already provided for in the harness) makes up/downgrading very simple and essentially undetectable.

I'd hate to see how confused someone would be with my car two decades from now.
I've removed (completely) the PS and AC, swapped from auto to manual belts, added factory fogs, deleted the rear wiper hatch, added an aluminum hood, upgraded to four piston brakes...the list goes on.
It no longer conforms to the specs as delivered in 1991 but there's no visual clue to my meddling, no hacked wiring, no extra drilled holes.

What your car was and what it is now may be two different things but it's nothing to lose sleep over.

The swapped engine in the FD...now that might give a historian pause...

Car was repainted due to fall-out. The guy worked in the mines. But it was repainted the stock colour.

Yea, the owner before had no clue what he was doing, the mechanic had to take out TWO window washer pumps and install a new one.

I'm picking the car up today, I'll take some photos.

ryan2949 06-30-12 04:07 PM

Alright, just brought the car home finally. It doesn't have lumbar adjustments or even cruise control. The mirrors aren't even S5 mirrors because they're not body colored, they're black and don't have the little hole in them.

ryan2949 06-30-12 10:01 PM

Bump with two photos. Was too busy learning how to drive manual. Did incredibly well for my first time.

So do some S5's have these black colored mirrors? Or are they supposed to be matched mirrors with the hole or w.e?

You've seen the sticky, right?

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/specifications-what-did-2nd-generation-rx-7-come-w-options-standard-features-642372/

It says that all 91 coupes came with dual body colored mirrors. Not sure what Canadian cars were sold with though. Looks at the 89 and 90 models. They specify aerodynamic body colored power mirrors, but the 91 doesn't specifically say that. Once again, nothing to lose sleep over. If you want some aero mirrors, get some aero mirrors. If you want seats with lumbar support, find some and have them recovered in whatever material suits your fancy. I, like Clokker, have added all kinds of stuff to my car; some from different model, even different make vehicles.

Very nice car though. Congrats :)

i think those mirrors might be stock on a CAD car, its in the parts catalog (www.foxed.ca).

canada seems to have had some different options

I'm not actually upset any of it's missing and yes, I have read that sticky, more than one! Haha, that's how this thread was made. I absolutely love the car. It needs new speakers and a deck ASAP! 21 year old cars stereo's sound like shit! It also needs it's windows tinted, aha. I'm only checking to see if anyone knows why. :) I'll be doing the same thing, g35 mudguards, Crown Vic wheels. That's what I love about these cars, you can use almost anything from any car, aha!

That's what I'm assuming. And after just checking ads for other cars in Ontario, the coupes all had black mirrors and 'verts and turbo's had the aero mirrors.

I don't understand the desire to know "why", could be any number of reasons a PO did what they did...cheap, available, preference, etc.

While it's true that you can creatively adapt lots of stuff from other cars, it's hardly "anything" and you appear to have lucked out on some of the very specific things that must be FC original.
The windshield side trim for instance isn't found on anything else and yours look brand new...that's the sort of thing that you might overlook (thinking it's trivial) when you buy a car, only to discover that replacements are insanely expensive, if available at all.

Finally, the FC is not now, nor will it ever be, a "collector car" in the sense that say a XKE is...nobody will ever pay stratospheric prices because you have original spark plug wires or washer bottles, simply keeping it in good working order should be your primary goal.

nycgps 07-01-12 07:32 AM

not surprised.

I'm the 6th owner of my FC, I tear down almost the whole front (including the dash) just to find out

one (or more) of the previous owner is such an idiot, loves to cut wires and pop stuff in here and there but never completely closes the connection. I'm surprised nothing was short and burn the whole car ... I spent a good amount of time to fix his/her fucking mistakes. god. I still have to find some time to remove that garbage Viper Alarm and install something more "decent" + I will add some custom security into the car ... including lo-jack like function.

That's why I'm trying to find out if it didn't come with it from factory in Canada or if it's something that's been removed by a PO. Either way, I'm not losing sleep over it, I love the car as it sits right now. This is my second ever vehicle and first vehicle that I paid for myself so I still have a lot to learn about rx7's even though I read on the forum for hours a day.

Also, if anyone can help me out with what these are for:
Under the dash on passenger side
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d.../WP_001001.jpg

And obviously drivers side
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d.../WP_000999.jpg

And is there a point in having that stock intake piece(I don't know what it's called, aha) if I have an aftermarket filter?
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/d.../WP_001003.jpg

What is the empty space for usually? I'm assuming cruise control? I have the button for it and everything.

And here's a few more cell phone pics, I'll get some with my girlfriend Nikon later today.

No, not really.

That's where the rear wiper switch would be, if you had one.
Cruise switch would go in the blank next to the main wiper control...kind of the mirror image of the turn signal switch.

Thanks!

Anyone have any ideas on the other two photos?

clokker 07-01-12 04:48 PM

The driver side plug is for the cruise control module.
What are the wire colors in the 4-pin plug?

ryan2949 07-01-12 05:00 PM

Red with yellow stripe
Yellow with white stripe
Blue with yellow stripe
Blue with white stripe

clokker 07-01-12 05:11 PM

I think it's for the AC main relay.

ryan2949 07-01-12 05:30 PM

I assumed that was what it was for.
