Missing Hose On Air Box
I'd like to say how informative this site has been to me the past two weeks getting my RX-7 running. I've got her running good and now I'm maiking sure all the little things are correct. I was putting in a new air filter and noticed a place that looked like it shoud have a small hose or line attatched to it. The previous owner apparently roled up a paper towel and put it in there. It is located on the back side of the airbox as marked with the arrows.

That's probably the air pump - which forces air into the 2nd / primary catalytic converter. It effects emissions and deceleration (prevents bucking from neg to positive acceleration while in gear)

No, the airpump line is the fat hose in the bottom picture on the far left.. Not sure what that little line is.. I'd just get a vinyl cap from the autoparts store and plug it

you can see his picture??

Yeah :) The nipple is about 4mm wide? It's not the 5/8" airpump hose, it's on the otherside of the stock airbox..

When I got my 86 GXL mine didn't have enything hooked up ther either, it was capped off, so I have no idea what it is for.

By God, my 86 and 87 both have that nipple. Both are capped off. I have NO idea what the reason is for its existence. Just when I thought I had a grasp everything on my car.
We'll get to the bottom of this! |
