Mechanic responsible for a blown motor? Left Initial Set Coupler Installed
 

Ok so heres the story.

I took my car to a trusted local repair facility. They tuned it all up, made all the adjustments and tried to get the car to smog. Left the shop and the car ran pretty good...150 miles of hard driving and autocrossing later, my car just slowly starts to fall on its ass. After the autocross today, Major lack of power, (my times were consistantly slower) floored in 4th gear on the highway my top speed it 75mph.

Took the car to my friend tonight who knows basically everything about rx-7's told him the whole story, popped the hood and I pointed out to him this jumper wire, that didnt look like it should be there, and asked him if it had anything to do with the problems. He said YES thats the initial set jumper and it basically puts the car in a mode that doesnt adjust timing, and that could possibly have caused the damage to the engine.

So before I go raise hell at the repair shop I wanted to run this past you guys.

Could that jumper have caused the engine failure given the HARD driving it was going through.

WRONG!!!

The ISC only disables the BAC so an idle adjustment can be made. The engine will still feed in timing adjustments.

You blew your motor yourself, sorry to say.

if it blew on the way home from the mechanic's shop, then you might've had a chance. but autox and hard driving after taking it home pretty much sealed the deal for you. that would be considered neglect and abuse on your part (even though everyone does it). even an insurance company would have a hard time justifying that.

good news is now that you can rebuild it to withstand whatever you want to throw at it. cheers!

I would say no, it had no affect on the engine blowing. I have found it to do very little in my experience, similar to the rich/lean adjustment on the s4 cars.
