Mazda Gremlins (electrical)

ok after about 2 days of searching and not really finding anything ive decided to post. I got my car running and able to idle, but it idles very roughly. Thats not what im here to ask though.

After getting it running i started testing all the electrical components out to make sure everything was in working order. To my dissapointment half of the switchs didnt work. So i thought i might as well post a list of everything that didnt work hoping that their all connected to one problem. Here it goes.

- Illum fuse is shorted
- Logicon doesnt work (no air flow or lights)
- Oil gauge doesnt work (theres no spade connector for the condensor plug)
- Cig lighter and cig lamp dont work
- Dash lights dont work at any brightness
- Turn signals, running lights, and highbeams dont work
- Clock doesnt work
- Warning lights are messed up. for example, when i tap the brakes the "add oil" light turns on.

For some of the problems im thinking that the cpu has bad solder points or the headlight/dimmer relays arent working. The car does have a S5 interior now, I put in a S5 gauge cluster and from what i can see it works decently expect for the oil gauge and maybe the speedo (not tested yet) Thers a blue harness directly behind the glovebox that im not sure about. The oil condensor ground is attached to the slave cyl but the yellow wire for the oil sender doesnt have the spade connector on it. I might be going with a Autometer gauge if i cant get it to work.

*sigh* most of things need to get fixed soon because the car needs to be saftey inspected.

Get or make a new body harness

Your wiring is all mixed up.
I have to fix some of mine, but i know it in the light switch.
but yah new wiring would be nice for you.

if the oil light is lighting up when you press the brake, you have the wrong clock idiot panel in.

and most of the rest of your problems sound like blown fuses and a hacked up car with the wring series parts in it.

Not Mazda electrical Gremlins... dumb shit previous owner hacking the car up problems.

i guess i should start lookin around for a new driver side harness.

Icemark - Its not the warning light thats wrong, ive taken the S5 one out and replaced it with a S4 model, the oil light still showed up when i hit the brakes. Although, on the S4 warning lights i could see the clock. But it was very very dim, almost invisible.

something that i actually wanted to ask you, i followed your write-up in the archive on how to do the S4=>S5 cluster swap. But the 2 black wires appeared to be the same gauge. Im had to kinda just guess the placement, is it safe to assume the wiring is ok?

Im not sure which previous owner is to blame, the car has a bad history.

which dash harness is in the car??? and the correct clock/warning panel for a S4 would be a FB02, or FB04. The number can be found on the back of the panel.

I thought it was based on plug, but solid black wires (with no stripes) are interchangeable anyway.

I thought they were interchangeable, but its good to get a definite answer.

I have the 2 different warning lights infront of me now.

the S4 is FB02
the S5 one i have is FC02

They both display the oil light when i step on the brakes. The clock does show up on the S4 but its so dim that you almost cant see it. Im pretty sure the harness in the car is the stock S4 87 GXL harness. The previous owner had intended it as a project car, but i dont think he had a chance to change the wiring.
