Max safe boost on stock injectors, fuel pump rewire, FCD, gutted catz/y-back exhaust
Ok guys, i'm a/b to manually limit boost on my car, but i need to know what you guys consider to be max safe boost on stock (4 brand new!) injectors, fuel pump re-wire, all emmisions removed, HKS Super Mega flow, gutted DP and mid cat, y-back rx7.com 50mm exhaust (my God these mufflers are sweet AND deep sounding)DIY FCD, stock 101k engine and turbo, turbo in great shape (no wobble, no oil) and slightly retarded (1-2deg.) timing and 99 octane? I just got the a/f and boost guages, and this motor will have to last a while. What i'm asking is what can my fuel system, at its current point, handle? Also, i pulled the epoxy out of my rich/lean screw so i do have some minor adjustability.
P.S. If you guys w/out cats want cheap race gas, check this out: http://www.vtr.org/maintain/gasoline-octane.html  |
10 psi of boost is all about what the stock fuel pump can handle IMHO.
|
The fuel injectors run over 80%-85% pulsewidths over 12psi.
If you have the fuel system capacity (the stock fuel pump isn't enough), then I'd ay 12psi is max. -Ted |
Thanks for the posts; until i get the Boost-a-pump or some other fuel setup, i'm manually limiting my boost to 8psi....any problems foreseen with this?

my boost levels on my setup.
Ok here is my setup just for FYI and what happened to me.
Weapon-R Intake (JUNK JUNK JUNK) 3" catback custom built with resonators on 3" tips. no cats (except in the downpipe) stock injectors no fuel pump rewire 10mm wires TID mod On an average IL night i run abou 10psi-12psi.. No problems to boot.:D |

Before I bought my FD, I had a TII with:
boost controller S-AFC full exhaust intakes RP fuel pump. I ran that set-up in the hot Okinawan heat(95 degrees F with 80% humidity) for a full summer, railing on it day in/day out, ALWAYS on the throttle, with 100,000 kilometers on the engine, and I never blew my engine. I ran it like this for over a year, and the car ran sweet(well, maybe a little rich top end). I've seen dyno sheets of FC's with stock turbo/intercooler with 280 hp to the rear wheels(with a fuel pump/rising fuel pressure regulator) so it's safe to say that the car CAN become extremely fast with the right tuning |
exactly
you just need to make sure you car is in good order, i.e. no major problems with the engine.
Im running 9-10 psi on cold night with midpipe, intake, fcd, super a-afc. I have my afc turned up approx 4% accross the board with the secondaries kick in and Im running fairly rich. I've never had a problem. I think the problem with blown motors is when people either don't have gauges to monitor what is going, or don't keep good maintenance, I think its easily possible to run 11-12 psi with full exhaust/intake. But if you dont change your oil, or have injector problems or other crap, of course your engine is toast. I'm personally going to port the hell out of my wastegate and get an avc-r and hopefully set it at 10-11 psi w/maybe a small fmic. |
