Manual steering rack versus non manual?
I'm wondering if changing my power steering rack out for a manual is going to be worth it? I'm in the process of putting a 20b into my car and would like to put a manual rack into it if it's going to make much of a difference. I was thinking about just putting plugs into the ports. Just wanting some input from people that have driven with both.

I've driven both, and my current car has a manual rack in it. Theres not a huge difference in effort required, and after driving it for a while you dont really notice the difference. I'd just keep the current rack and same the moeny hassle of putting in a new steering rack.

Not exactly sure what the size complications are on a 20B and its oil pan...
But a manual rack is not as thick as a PS rack...maybe a manual rack would give you more oil pan cleanance? James |
Thanks for the link andrewdruiz. Appreciate it. If the manual rack is slimmer than the ps rack then I might change it out. I currently have the k2rd mounts that I will use as templates when I make my own. I am going to use solid pucks and lower the engine down as much as possible. Might be able to make a little more room down there.

Depends on your front tire size... :)

I have the manual rack with 17x8 fronts, its less effort than the dead power rack wtih 16x7's..

but remember the 20B is going to add about 45 lbs in front of the axles/wheels making steering effort go up noticiably with a manual rack.
Everyone replying about a manual rack has only a 13B in it, which has the weight behind the front axles. |
