Manual headlight knob?

Everything I read online says their should be a manual knob for raising the headlights on my 88 convertible...can't find it

Should go to your air pump.

Ironman404 04-15-17 07:45 PM

Ok I taped it off for now as advised above.

does not having the air pump on here negatively affect performance?

The air pump is a required ancillary if you have a catalytic converter. Without the air pump, your cat will clog (which will certainly impact performance). If you haven't a cat, then the air pump is no longer necessary. This is true for all Rx7s up to and including year 1988. For reference purposes, Rx7s from year 1989 onwards also use the air pump to actuate the auxiliary ports (which does affect performance.

Manually opened the headlights...can't get power to them or the lamps themselves. Checked fuses....they are good.

Thanks! Guess I'm good since I don't have a cat.

Enter the cabin, remove the cowl around your headlight switch and look at the connector on the back. If it is burnt or melted, you need a new switch and possibly a new harness. It is a common failure.

And by the way, keep that extra tube capped tight, as it is connected to your intake. You don't want it inhaling hot engine air (which does reduce performance).

You know where the relays are for the headlights?

I ordered a Haynes manual but it won't be here until Tuesday.

Acesanugal 04-16-17 02:57 PM

If you manually opened the headlamps and they didn't try to shut themselves, your switch is almost certainly toast.. If not the wiring.

Rob XX 7 04-16-17 07:42 PM

Make sure the power is off to the motors before you turn the knob, i bought a FC that had been sitting and they didnt work, used the knob and the knob spin so fast it damn near took my fingers off when it sprung to life

Ironman404 06-03-17 08:49 PM

So I replaced the light control unit...no luck. Nothing!

I guess it is my wiring?

Well, there's your problem lady...this "guessing" bushwah.
A secondary problem would be that Haynes manual nonsense, why not go directly to the source.
All factory service manuals available free for download here: Foxed.ca - Mazda RX-7 Manuals
Pretty much everything you need to know is in there, your guessing days are over.

Given your screen name, I assumed as much. It's an obscure Eric O reference that no one is expected to get.

Not sure...the word I used has no "s".
Bushwah (the "h" is optional) is a colloquialism that means "piffle or nonsense" when used genteelly and "bullshit" in cruder company.

No one in their right mind would recommend Haynes over factory...are you institutionalized perchance?

misterstyx69 06-04-17 02:09 AM

I prefer Haynes..over Fruit of the Loom...
and Bushwash is 20 dollars extra..downtown...
