Manifold Swap Question

OK i read the posts on the s5 manifold on a s4 engine and all but heres my situation. I have an s5 core with s4 manifolds. What will i have to do put the s5 manifolds (upper and lower) on my s5 block. A writeup would be appreciated if anyone can find one.

Get the parts you need and bolt them on. I don't understand the problem. You know what you need to do. Get the S5 externals and bolt em up.

Check the archives. Try a search. This has all been covered many times before. There have also been a few topics in the past few weeks about using the S5 manifolds on the S4 block.

I read those topics. My question was since I have an s5 block with the s4 manifolds will i have to make the same modifications that have to be made to put the s5 manifolds on the s4 block. Or was anyhtign changed on ym blockto make the s4 manifolds fit.

OK more clerly thought out:
The s5 core was modified with the s4 end plates in order to make it fit in my car. Becasue of this will i face the same issues as putting an s5 mani on a s4block or will it be a direct bolt up?

i used the write up on this page on my brothers 7 http://homepage.mac.com/cardavis/main/main.html

If you have S4 end plates, then you don't have a S5 block... so make up your mind.

^^^^Ok i had a s5 engine put into my s4 car. I know for sure the housings, rotors, e-shaft ect are from the '91 motor. I also know something had to be swapped from the s4 to make it fit in the '86 body. Im sure someone here knows what it was.

Icemark 01-01-05 11:48 PM

well, what are the end and center plates??? If they are from a S4 use the S4 LIM and the S5 mid and upper, if they are S5 then use the entire S5 intake from the thottle body back.

The center plate and emissions will determine what LIM you are using.

But just saying you have a S5 motor when you don't even have S5 plates is like saying you have a Turbo engine, except the manifold and Turbo.

hahahahaha

He'll still need the ECU and wiring harness thow, right? since he's got the TPS and OMP that are mech vs electrical... you need the omp from the same evolution, right?

well, the MOP and TPS should be determined by what year/model ECU he uses.

OK lets make this simpler. If YOU (icemark) were going to put a s5 engine in a s4 car what would YOU change? That is what was done. I know the center iron wasnt changed so im guessing atleast one end was.

ddub 01-02-05 03:29 AM

I wasn't aware of any change that had to be made for it to fit.

BklynRX7 01-02-05 09:31 AM

I just read up on it and from what i can tell, in order to keep the s4 harness and ecu you have to change the front cover since the omps are diferent.

Icemark 01-02-05 11:56 AM

If I was putting a S5 motor into a S4 car, I would use the S4 front cover, harness, ECU, TPS and S4 MOP, but use the S5 intake and everything else, and rewire the EGR solenoide valve to control the VDI with a RPM switch.

BklynRX7 01-02-05 04:56 PM

Cleared up original question:

OK so if i have a s5 block that has a s4 front cover currently with all s4 manifolds. Would the s5 manifolds bolt right up or will I have to modify them somehow?

Icemark 01-02-05 05:03 PM

I don't know how you could make the S4 LIM work on a S5 block (there are major differences) so it would again be determined based on what the set up really was.

For example:
S4: http://homepage.mac.com/carldavis/in...s/p6220023.jpg
and S5:
http://homepage.mac.com/carldavis/in...s/p6220022.jpg

See the locations for the EGR on the S4?

lets go at it backwards (since it sounds like you really don't know how your engine was put together), do you have a EGR valve or spot for one on the engine???

BklynRX7 01-02-05 05:21 PM

Well im goign to have to go check that out tomorrow. WHat about the uim? I am just wondering because i am buying a set of s5 manifolds to put on and i wanna know if i could do it myself without much risk or i should leave it to the pros. I removed and stripped down several 13b's so i know the basics but i would not want to deal with any of the fabbing that i read about.

Icemark 01-02-05 05:47 PM

well either way you will be able to make the S5 UIM (upper Intake Manifold) and DEI chamber work, it just might take some custom tweaks to mate them to the LIM that is the correct one for the block.

Thanks
