I've been searching for the past two days! on the hesitation and all I have to say is damn!!!!! I had no idea our cars could hesitate for just about any reason. One guy said his hesitation started when he rewired his fuel pump and then instead of it verying voltage he just cliped the two wires going back to the fuel pump relay and it was constant 14volts and that got rid of the hesitation. Another guy said it only happend when he installed his safc and if he took it out it worked fine. And another guy said it was his maf that was causing the problem and then countless threads came out about grounding, tps, and vacuum leaks. I guess what my question is if you have had any sort of hesitation at all please post your fixes! Usually in all these threads right when it is getting good it ends....no result! (in my best chris farley voice) "Please for the love of god" post your hesitation fixes :)

ps. A little inpiration :)

Lol, you're getting desperate, Honda Dude :)

Get back to basics- what causes hesitation? Lack of fuel, or lack of ignition...

Lack of fuel seems to be the favorite, so break it down to the components that might cause hesitation- fuel pump, filters, injectors...Then the electrical side of fuel supply (which seems to cause us the most problems)- ECU, and every sensor that inputs to the ECU for the purposes of fuel scheduling, and the wiring (and grounds) attaching everything...

My personal "hesitations" over the years were the result of 1) clogged inlet pump filter, 2) shitty ground, 3) intermittent water thermo sensor connection, and 4) and whatever the hell is causing my "only on a sunny day while hitting a bump while the nose of the car is down while the wind is blowing from the south and the car is cruising down the freeway "mini-hesitation" that happens two or three times per 50 miles...

hondahater 09-01-04 09:19 PM

lol that one must be pretty hard to find :) Where exactly is the water thermo sensor located? And yes deseratizm is setting in, hehe

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 09-01-04 09:19 PM

One of the biggest is the TPS, that I've heard.

hondahater 09-01-04 09:20 PM

yeah tried the tps and actually don't want to hear anything else that even starts with the letter "t" lol

WAYNE88N/A 09-01-04 09:21 PM

Back of the water pump housing, green colored sensor and plug (on my car, anyway)

What the heck is "deseratizm"?, lol...

hondahater 09-01-04 09:24 PM

oh sorry desperatism! lol

hondahater 09-01-04 09:27 PM

oh sorry desperatism! lol.................and wait a minute, is there supposed to be a wire going into that green connector??? I"m about to snap a picture of something really scary hold on.

WAYNE88N/A 09-01-04 09:29 PM

Man, I know I sound like a broken record here, but the only way you're gonna nail this bastard is to hook up an analog meter to each and every sensor that could cause this, one at a time, at the ECU, and go for a drive...If you find one that has the meter going crazy during your hesitations, that's your guy (or your circuit). If you find more than one that seems bad, take a better look at your harness & grounds...One at a time, man, check them off your "list"...You'll nail it sooner or later :)

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 09-01-04 09:29 PM

Any certain rpm or throttle that it studders or is it all over the place.

hondahater 09-01-04 09:30 PM

but hey is that green connector (water thermo sensor) supposed to have a wire going to it??

hondahater 09-01-04 09:31 PM

its 4.5k rpm without boost sensor and 3.5 with boost sensor

WAYNE88N/A 09-01-04 09:33 PM

2 wires, actually, encased in the harness sheathing...

hondahater 09-01-04 09:36 PM

oh shit  my harness is fizucked up! there is nothing plugged into that sensor! and I don't even see what would plug into that sensor, the harnes right at that point gets really really brittle and the sensor on top of the housing has a broken line going to it (not attached) do you know what the two wire colors are that go to that water thermo sensor? Damnit! new harness time :(

WAYNE88N/A 09-01-04 09:39 PM

Can you take a pic? Hopefully you're not looking at the e-fan sensor switch option, I have no idea what color that thing is...Try this...How many sensors do you see on the back of the pump housing, behind the alt?

WAYNE88N/A 09-01-04 09:43 PM

Umm, green/white, and black, on an NA, anyway :)

The black is the same "ground" that all of the 5 volt sensors use, so make sure that bad boy is not touching ground (the engine)

ok I see a green one you are talking about however nothing plugged into it. I also see to wires comming out of what looks like another sensor right next to the green sensor and then on top there is another sensor

ps. sorry can't find my camra.........damnit!

WAYNE88N/A 09-01-04 09:58 PM

You got that e-fan mod, then, or something like that...

Well, you gonna fix it or what?

If the sensor "backshell" is still good, you could run new wiring, but you're gonna need to find that black common ground wire if you can. The green/white feeds the info back to the ECU (to the pin you were supposed to be checking by now, lol). That particular sensor does not have the 5v ref going to it...

WAYNE88N/A 09-01-04 10:02 PM

Is that drawing looking from the back? Like if I was 6" tall, and sitting on the engine, and looking towards the front of the car?

hondahater 09-01-04 10:02 PM

damnit....this sucks :( Anyways I have a green/black wire cut, a black/red wire cut and a brown wire cut. I don't see anything else??? I looked all over for a green/white wire but I don't see any green/white wires cut??

WAYNE88N/A 09-01-04 10:10 PM

I didn't print up the cooling fan schematics from the FSM wiring manual 'cause I don't have that stuff on my car, but it should be about page 50-38 if you want to look it up real quick. Oh hell, I'll do it...Hold on :)

WAYNE88N/A 09-01-04 10:15 PM

OK, the green/black goes to your water temp switch for your cooling fan...If it's still on the car...

Does the brown wire perhaps have a white stripe?

Don't know about the black/red...:(

hondahater 09-01-04 10:18 PM

thanks for all the help! SO whats the deal with the cooling fan???? are you talking about my rad fan or my other a/c fan??? My a/c fan was rigged from the last guy that owned it to always cut on when the key is in the on posision or maybe since this is cut it always turns on??? I'm going to check the brown wire now.

WAYNE88N/A 09-01-04 10:22 PM

Yeh, your A/C cooling fan...They don't put 'em on the NA manual trannies, the bastards :)

hondahater 09-01-04 10:25 PM

ok just cut off a huge hunk of the tape around the harness and the brown is realy white. and the other wires are the same. is an a/c fan needed??? Well not for me obviously because I don't use a/c but does it really cool that condensor that much?
