making a roll bar..some help?

lately i've been thinking about putting a roll bar in my GTU. in a little bit i want to start autocross or maybe some road racing. i have all the supplies and tools to make one but i need some input on parts. what width of tubing should i use?. it is basically going to start right behind the seats near the doors, go up the side of the seats and barely touch the roof. then it will have to bars going to the strut bar area from the top of the bar. its a basic desing. should i include anything else? but there is one question that determines if this can even start or not. in what class of scca do u need a certified roll bar? or if its personaly made how do u get it certified?

Usually, you can get the info you need in the GCR*, which is downloadable online, I think. This will give you all the info you need. Typically, as long as the roll bar meets all the requirements in the GCR, you're good. Honestly, if you're gonna skimp somewhere on a race car, the roll cage ain't it.

*The SCCA (secret car club of america) has been known to change rules at random between races during the season without announcing them, and still expect you to know the changes. Be careful and make sure you know what you need to know for the class(es) you want to run in before you do anything.

Are you talking competitive Road Racing or Track days? A basic hoop won't cut it in competitive Road Racing. Do you have a sunroof? If so, it needs to go. There's so much more to it. Like Falcoms said, get yourself a GCR and look at the particular class you would like to race in. A lot of thought needs to go into a full cage. If you're trying to do this yourself for the first time I strongly suggest you consult with a professional. Maybe have it done for you. You don't want to mess this up!

this will be for just track days and the car wont be a race car, just weekend autocross. why will the sunroof have to go? it wont be a cage and wont cost me anything. this is just an idea to keep busy.
