Lucas products

Are lucas products such as the injector cleaner and oil additive safe to use in our cars? Havent been able to find much info

Tofuball 06-28-04 06:49 AM

I'd say no.

I'm pretty much against addatives (especially to oil) because most of them allow air to get trapped inside the oil.

You ever see those displays at auto stores with the lucas oil in them?

Spin them pretty quick for a while and they froth up pretty bad. Now try it at 3000RPM with an electric drill. Mmm, white paste. You want your oil to look like that? ;)

I second that. I am a firm beliver that if you need an additive to get your engine through a couple months, it needs more help then you can give it from a bottle. I am even hesitant to use Fuel Injector cleaners. I just have them sent out if it comes down to it.

I wouldnt use an oil additive, but I cannot say enough about the quality of lucas products. Very good stuff :)

I agree about the oil additives for the motor.. BUT.. their tranny additives are the BOMB.. especially for slogomatics!!!

vaughnc 06-30-04 01:40 PM

In a piston engine use Lucas if you're got lifter noise, but that's it. On a rotary, no way.

In a rotary using synthetic in the diff or tranny is ok. I'd say even using a watter wetter in the radiator is fine.

Tofuball 06-30-04 01:42 PM

The reason that it helps with lifter noise, I BELIVE, is that it is a viscocity enhancer.

Just use a thicker oil.

I've used lucus oil treatment for about a year and have had nothing but good results. Not only smoother on idle and cruising, but also bumped my oil pressure up nicely.

Everyone's got their own opinion on oil additives. Since I've owned four fc's, I've got mine, and I know what I don't want to add to the oil.

never had any problems with lucus thus far. I just suggest not using tons and tons of it unless the engine is completely on its way out Oil pressure wise anyway.

do you guys consider MMO as an additive?

Digi7ech 06-30-04 04:38 PM

Well if your adding it to your oil/gas then yes it's an additive. ;)

I wouldn't use the Lucas in my oil just because I have my OMP on. I don't know if that stuff is rated to be burned off. I doubt it.

I do plan to switch to synthetic oil soon though.

MMO doesnt cause the same problems that the Lucas stuff does, in my limited experience.

Peppermint candy for the engine. ;)

MMO = ATF
Lucas = snake oil

Lucas electronics are why the English drink warm beer. How can their additives be any better.

inflatablepets 07-12-04 08:24 PM

I liked Lucas oil in my truck. Especially in the trans, it shifted like butter after I put some in.

rekx 07-12-04 11:05 PM

you do know that lucas stuff is really just a straight heavy weight oil right?

rs_1101 07-12-04 11:16 PM

yea i had an inkling.

what about that engine restorer thats supposed to raise compression on older piston motors???? rotary???? i put some in. i dont notice anything different.
