LSD Diff - how to check?
 

With the clutch type LSD's on S4 cars, is there a torque 'spec' to apply in diagnosing if the clutch plates are worn out?
I suspect mine is noi longer locking up, but would like to have a check procedure to verify.
If I lift one wheel and put the torque wrench on it, the clutch pack will release and the wheel will turn at 18 lb-ft.

Anybody have any links or experience with this?

I didn't see any breakaway torque specs when I was doing my TII diff teardown last weekend, but 18 ft/lb is pretty wimpy. I have over 50 ft/lbs breakaway torque on my TII diff. Don't forget that torque applied to both wheels in the same direction forces the pressure rings apart and puts pressure on the clutches increasing the lockup. Without engine or braking torque you are only measuring the torque capacity provided by the preload of the conical springs against the clutch pack. The TII diffs have 3 springs on each side, NAs only have one, BTW.
