LRB speed defroster grills review...

The title tells all, this is a review. :)

Landon did a good job on these. I sourced some demister grills from mazda and was trying to stay as stock as posssible, but the factory blue defroster grills are gone, bye bye, nice tou now you. So I ordered the aluminum grills from LRB. I'll Start with the pros and cons and after that, give you an installers insight of how to install them.

Pros...

Aluminum, will last longer than your housings!
Comes with hardware!
Cut perfectly, mounting holes are on spot!
Very, VERY well made.

Cons...

It is suggested that when you remove the 8mm bolt from the dashboard topper, that you take it off to make install easier. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T DO THAT! I'll explain later.

The speed clips that are sent with the kit are super sharp. I am an installer and stay way safe around speed clips, but they still cut me up pretty good.

So to the install part, only took 30 minutes...

Obviously, what remains of the stock vents has to go, if there is any. Under the center vent cap, which is still intact but isn't going to be any more, there is an 8mm bolt that you need to remove. Buh bye center cap!

This is the installer portion of the review and how-to...

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT try and remove that cap, it will break! So here is the installer version of how to install these.

Insert a nylon pry tool between the cap and the dash, perpendicular to where the vin plate would be. The gives you enough height to insert the speed clip from the kit. It still requires finger muscle, but it works.

You do the same thing on the passenger side for the outside speed clips. you can get a little leverage BUT do not pry too hard!

Now just apply a bit of pressure right in the center where that 8mm bolt was on the dash cap, with a panel tool, and the speed clips just slip in.

Short clips on the outside and long clips go on the inside.

Finger tighten the screws, if you tighten them down the aluminum bows out. Just use your fingers to tighten them. It's a vent, not a lug nut.

Kaboom, done.

I have them in my restored 91 turbo vert. I powdercoated them with a dull blue metallic powder that I had on hand and it matches the faded blue interior fairly well.
