Lowes/Autozone Turbo Intake installed

so my turbo intake had been busted up pretty badly with cracks everywhere. so i had needed a new one but could not afford the 100 dollar sticker prices ive seen online for a replacement. so i decided to build one. i went to several auto stores in the "performance section but could not find anything suitable as a pipe that would be ideal for the existing first piece of the T.I. so i decided to search my inner ricer and decided to go to Lowes for some pvc pipe. thankfully, they were in black and i found myself a 2.5 inch 90 degree bend. then i headed over to autozone and bought a 2.5-3.0 coupler and a 3.0 inch coupler. with some forceful squeezing and tightening of couplers, afm, and clamps, i managed to finally get it done. here are the pics. my only question is, can i block my vacuum line leading to the intake or can i get it from another vacuum source? also...in the last pic...i have an aftermarket tmic that i wanna put in but it does not have connections for the bac valve hoses. do i just put a breather filter on the bac? but what do i do to the other hose? see last pic to understand what i mean. thank u again.

washer fluid is for SUCKAS! so are washer fluid reservoirs... wipers & wiper motors...get rid of it all and lose 20 lbs... then get rain x(the new gel)... weight? negligable.

dont for get that ugly rear wiper too.

You could make the intake with less bends.

I used an alumnium piple with a slight bend. Ad 2 couplers and your done. Esp since your using a cone filter.

ya i wanted to use aluminum but i dont have the time to find a fabricator or to find aluminum pipes. plus...i would use pvc pipe to go to the turbo but i dont trust the pipe which might crack and get sucked in...idk...dont want to take my chances. however..anyone know the answer to the bac valve hose and intake vacuum hose question?

I have a somewhat ghetto DIY intake too on my T04S turbo. I went to Pep Boys and they had these 4" aluminum (it's real aluminum though, not the plasticky crap) elbows that I bought and cut. Then I used the 4" coupler it came with, two Ace Hardware worm clamps, and an AEM 4" cone that was on clearance on their ebay store. Then I beat the crap out of the cone to make it fit.

i found aluminum at pepboys but that shit was 4 inch diameter and cost me 30-40 dollars!!!! pvc all the way! haha. i might upgrade to a k&n filter later on. the hks ive heard are one of the least effective filters on the market.

does anyone have an idea regarding the bac valve question? see first post.

Aaron Cake 05-10-08 10:32 AM

The BAC valve needs to draw air from behind the AFM.

Any "vacuum" lines that were connected to the old TID must be reconnected to the new. Off hand, there is a vent line that leads to the purge valve, and the line from the BAC.

As for your aftermarket cooler, you will need to modify it to allow connection to the BOV and whatever else is missing.
