Lowering boost
 

Would it be better to restrict the intake side of a turbo or the exhaust side?
By "better" I mean more efficient.

I take it you have put a larger inlet and exhuast on your car and now your boosting at dangerous levels?
Be AWARE you will blow you your car!!!! put the stock inlet side back on for now and you should sit at about 11 psi and you'll probably be ok ( im assuming you have a 3" exhaust )

inlet is easier to restict that exhaust ( by eaiser i mean less cost and time ) you have gone all out to do other mods adn spent plenty of $$ why dont you just port you wastegate and put a boost controller inthere and be done with it

Long story short, My turbo motor blew. I had a N/A block so I put the turbo guts on the N/A block. And Naturally i don't want to boost that high for fear of blowing the N/A. I've got a 3" turbo back exhaust with no cats and a cone filter intake yada yada....I'm wanting to aim for around 8 PSI.

The FMIC piping is keeping me from putting the factory airbox back. I'm trying to decide whether to put some kind of restrictor plate in the intake or the exhaust.
I'd rather put it in the intake because it would be easier to get to. But i don't know if it would be better to put it in the exhaust.

A boost controller, from what I understand, can only increase boost not lower it.

8 psi is just a touch above stock. . .

You are right about the boost controller. it will work if you port your wastegate.
I blew my eng and turbo to. Replaced eng ( S4 ) and turbo (S5) and ported the wastegates and when i went for a spin yesterday (about 3 hours ) the most boost i saw was 4.5-5psi. by 3.5k rpm Now im all set to crank it up when ive done my run in KM ( i have same exhaust set up as you and a pod filter but no FMIC.
Port your wastegate man. You will be happy you did.

A boost controller should be able to reduce boost if the wastegate is set up for that (light enough spring on an external. no changes needed for an internal?) and can flow enough exaust to accomodate it. On the FC the main reason for high boost when opening up the intake and exhaust is that the wastegate hole is far too small, you can port it and that should help, and it'll be more efficient than artificially choking the engine.
