Loud Exhaust in South Carolina

I've written before that the single large catalytic-converter/stock mufflers make my car practically un-drivable with the top up.

I have been going from shop to shop looking for someone who can create/install a custom pre-silencer but everybody just looks at me funny.

Does anyone in the Carolinas know of a shop that does custom work on second generation exhausts?

I just want it quiet again!

Ummmm why don't you buy a RB pre-silencer? All you need to do is buy it two gaskets and two flanges for it. Then have the area of the pipe where you want it cut then have them add the flanges at either side. Then just put in your gaskets and silencer. Is that so hard to explain to a grease monkey?

I once spent three months trying to explain the the "exhaust specialists" at Midas that the reason that my exhaust kept opening up is that they were not mating the pipes correctly.

Instead of welding the new pipe to the inside of the flat flange, then bolting the flanges together - flat with the gasket between - they insisted that the pipe pass though the flange, be flattened so that it would not slip back out, and then be matted to the other flange with the gasket in between.

After going back to the shop every other week, I gave up and found a shop that installed the single cat. So, the answer is "Yes, it is hard to find a grease monkey who understands."

When I buy the pre-silencer, I will have to find still another shop where they will understand how to cut the current pipe to install the pre-silencer.

I have little faith that I will find this easily in my area, thus I search for someone in this area who has had luck with a local shop.

One of my options is to go ahead and get the pre-silencer, and then go back to the shop that added the "single large" to have them install it, but they are 150 miles away and I was hoping to find someone closer.

I don't know much about the racing sceen here in Columbia SC. But it is a good idea. I will see what I can find in the SCCA listings.
