Lots of smoke during Idle

I just got a new turbo II 1987.

When I turn on the car, the amount of smoke that comes out of the exhaust is ridiculous. Almost like the scene in 28 weeks later when they try to gas out the zombies lol. The smoke is white, and it stings my eyes...

Anyway, any idea what this may be? I was told it could be the turbo, and from reading online I am told it could be a coolant leakage into the combustion chamber? Anyone ever experience this or could guide me on what I should diagnose first before doing any purchases. Thanks

ps: while driving the smoke clears up, unless i start shifting at 5-6k.. then a puff of smoke would come out the exhaust.

White and stings the eyes sounds like coolant getting into the chambers to me - oil smoke, such as from a bad turbo, smells like oil, but wouldn't really sting, just stink. So congrats, looks like you'll be getting a chance to refresh that engine with a rebuild.

I checked my coolant level after a decent drive and it was still full. So can it really be a coolant leakage?

Also another thing i noticed, theres only crazy smoke in the initial start up that keeps going until i get the car driving. After driving it the smoke disappears. Then when I fully stop have let the car sit on idle, there is no smoke as well.

Any advice?

When it burns your eyes, it's running rich. How's the oil level.

could be blowby due to worn side seals. that doesn't necessarily mean you need to rebuild your engine or anything, it just means that the side seals might be pretty worn.
